Nuts, that. Are the German lower leagues more closely squashed together in terms of ability, or was this really like a Morecambe or Barrow beating a mid-table PL side?

Kayserispor are on their fourth boss. There are billions of red cards too - once week there were 8, and three matches saw both sides end with 10 men.

They are in the Regionalliga which is the 4th tier of the pyramid here - it is the first non-National level - they play in the Regionalliga South-West and look likely to win that this year which will see them up into the 3. Liga.

The jump between the Regionalliga and the 3.Liga is a fairly big one but it is not uncommon to see sides win a second promotion or do well - a lot do slip straight back down though as there are 4 relegation spots from the 20 team league.

This year as an example, Mannheim are challenging to go straight up whereas Viktoria Köln and Chemnitzer look like dropping back down - Bayern II are midtable. The 3.Liga being the top of the pyramid for reserve sides.

Recently finished this excellent book about Turkish football and how embedded it is in modern Turkish history. A real eye-opener and recommended.
