Winston's suggested rule change:

Because I hate how players pretend to get injured and need treatment just so that the rest of the team can pretend they need a drink, then all go to the touchline around the manager for a drink while he dishes out tactics - My suggested rule change is that both clubs place waterbottles around the outside of the pitch. players are allowed to grab one of their own clubs waterbottles anytime they want when the ball is out of play, but them being off the pitch having a drink will not stop play starting again. If a player does want a drink then they must use the waterbottle positioned closest to them.

FL clubs have voted to scrap the immediate transfer embargo sanction for clubs who exceed 30 days of late payments (including those payments due to other clubs). In future these failures will be replaced with a structured business plan approach based on individual circumstances.

Clubs could still be subject to some sort of fee restriction as part of a plan, but only for one window.

Really liked the suggestion I saw on SM the other day that because extra time is always so dull as neither team wants to lose, and that so much then rests on pens......that pens and ET should be swapped around

Sounds weird I know. But essentially the idea is that the winner of the penalty shootout would get a 1/2 goal advantage going into ET, therefore forcing the team that lost pens to then have to go for it. Makes sure the game is decided on the ET, and it would be more open

This. Always said something like that should be done rather than the borefest that a lot of ETs turn into. Imagine if Reading had had the penalty shootout before the ET period v Huddersfield, they might actually have tried to win the game

But knowing our luck we’d have won the shootout and than ****** it all up that way.

This. Always said something like that should be done rather than the borefest that a lot of ETs turn into. Imagine if Reading had had the penalty shootout before the ET period v Huddersfield, they might actually have tried to win the game

Of course, football fans would find it terribly difficult to cope with the idea of a half a goal but I'm sure they'd get there in the end.

The more I think about it, it's a genius idea that would truly enhance the entertainment in what is, after all, supposed to be an entertainment industry.

It would also disrupt the idea of a penalty specialist like Ivan Toney coming on just a minute before the shoot-out and nothing more, which would be no bad thing!

An off field change that impacts Women's football first off in the UK next year.

Fans will be allowed to drink alcohol in their seats during the game from next season in the WSL and WSL2 following a successful trial period this season at a few 2nd Tier clubs.

Update on the knock on effect of the Lassana Diarra case:

FIFA confirm that as of 1st Jan 2027 it will be a mandatory requirement for all professional football players worldwide to have a buyout clause. The player will receive 5% of the transfer cost. If a players fixed basesalary is below €150k a year then this 5% is mandatory, if it is above then the player must be offered it but can partially waive it.

Transfer payment and wage payment delays which go to a football tribunal will be hit with an 8% interest payment.

My understanding from this and from reading elsewhere is that FIFPRO (kind of like the football players union) is going to be recognised more and have more power at the top level of world football. Any changes in the game around player welfare, transfers, and more, will effectively have to be signed off by them for them to come into effect..

To try and stop the strategic goalkeeper injury palava, a new law amendment is coming in for the PL & FL.

Under the new regulations, once the referee has signaled for medical staff to treat a goalkeeper, that team’s manager has 10 seconds to tell the fourth official which outfield player will be removed from the match for one minute after play is resumed. If no player is chosen in time, the captain is removed. If the goalkeeper is also the captain, then the outfield player who had been nominated to speak to the referee ahead of the game is the one binned.

Anyone think this is starting to get silly? If an injury is valid just why should that team be penalised further? It would make more sense introduce a qualified medical professional to work alongside the officials and make a judgement call on whether an injury is valid and the team’s physio is required or not.

Just like VAR, f11ck it off

150 years + of football without this bs, non of it betters the game, on the contrary.

The referee just stops the clock, injured or feigning….and adds it on before the cessation of the game, the obvious and deliberate disruption of play earns a booking (or eventually two, and off).

Referees simply need to get back to refereeing……..cut this VAR and tinkering from the game….fukk $ky and co.
