my apologies, though mcdermott did say we first started watching le fondre in january. he also said we weren't interested so a lesson learnt on not trusting everything your own club tells you..

Don't really think it's a matter of not trusting your own clubs statements - if McD said they were interested then the price would go up..........kinda like buying a second-hand car, capiche?

Do you not think they'd have figured out we were interested when we put a bid in?

No doubt that the club's PR is heavily filtered to keep some of our work under the radar but it's not to that way to keep the price down.

Everything that comes out as an official line has to be taken with a pinch of salt as there are a lot of agenda's at play that mean they can't be 100% truthful with the media and fans.

It would be a bit stupid to say we were interested, if we weren't sure we were going to make a bid, or weren't sure we were going to be successful in bringing him in.

For one it could backfire spectacularly with fan opinion and expectations if we did miss out on him for any reason. He is pretty highly rated as a prospect afterall.

This is the stupidest myth in football, it pains me people believe it. Do you really think opposing clubs are THAT stupid that they sit there and think when an actual bid comes in " well reading weren't interested before, lets just charge them a standard price because of that"...no, they base is on the interest and bid at that time. They also aren't retards, they see what goes in and out of other clubs and have a good idea of their finances and stature. Its not just a couple of lads round a table having some banter, they are trained people with plenty of experience within football. Rotherham got a price they were happy with, so did we and it had absolutely nothing to do with BMD saying we weren't interested before.

judging by the fact that almost everytime we buy someone the club, or manager has previously issued a statement saying we are not interested, id say your an idiot.
