They don't have terracing on the continent aeither - or at least in Germany. Can everyoen get into the habit of understanding the difference between "terracing" (old-style) and "rail-seats" or "safe-standing."

It's the knee-jerk assumption that standing = old-style terracing that is holding back progess in some ways.

Eh? Borussia dortmund have the biggest terraced stand in europe. They do this whilst having the second largest European average attendance too ( 79.151).

But a safe-standing area is quite different from an old-style terrace, and for clarity should be referred to as such. Confusion of the differences is problematical.

Dortmunds doesn't look like those, even still...its still terracing. If your argument is " put more gates in the terracing to make it safer" then I agree completely.

This begs the question of whether people who want to stand want this new stuff (looks like a cattle pen and is little different to standing in front of your seat at an away game) or a return to proper old South Bank style terracing, which is a rather different, less restricted, experience (and not going to happen).

Football grounds that hold rock concerts allow standing during those and in most cases like Ricoh Area, St Mary's, Eastlands etc there are far more attending the concert than the football.

Morecambe's new Globe Arena has terracing. And Cheltenham's new ground at the racecourse is also planned to have at least one end of terracing.

It's a bit worse than that. The Football Foundation will not give grant aid to any club - at any level - for use in building standing areas, they will only fund seated accommodation. The only reason that the Globe Arena has terracing is because Morecambe didn't need external funding - if they had they would not have been able to have a standing terrace there, and the majority of clubs do need grants for stadia developments.

And Carlisle are looking to move - they currently have the largest terrace left in the UK. As they'll need external funding the odds are theat there'll be no standing in the new ground.

Perhaps one day someone will get the message through that there is nothing wrong with standing at games if it is well planned and well controlled (like any spectator event) and in accordance with the facilities available. Certainly get much better atmosphere in the home areas of grounds if it returned.

See previous posts about allocation cuts. We as a club fight them vigorously - they don't achieve anything and only cost us money. Do you really want to see one imposed?
