Not denying that, but if we were only a goal up in the last minute you could bet your mortgage that Hunt or Church would be blocking shots at our goal with there testicles if they had to. Take that Burnley defender last season for example, something British and Irish players seem to have over foreign players is that they will do anything for their teammates and vice versa.
You really need to think these things through. If a shot needed blocking I'd rather have Vidic or Thiago Silva or Tevez or Gattuso or Kuyt trying to block it than Hunt or Church. Working hard for the team and being brave are not exclusively British and Irish qualities.
But do you think those players would work hard for Reading FC? If we were 4 - 0 up in the last minute of a game and Hunt had the chance to block a shot with his ball sack he would.

Same goes for Matt Mills, I actually like him, he'd have taken a crowbar to the teeth to stop us getting relegated even when he knew he was off.

That's because he'd be trying to make up for being incredibly average at football by running around a lot and generally getting in the way

TheSiege Sorry Guys, but in the real world, neither Hunt nor Church should be in the 25 of a Premiership team. They do not have the quality. I agree with all of those people who like their influence on the squad - and their 'never say die' attitude but, if RFC wish to be a Prem. club beyond 12/13 we need them to be replaced. Zaha and Rhodes would be good!

I ouldn't give a flying oxf*rd how good Noel Hunt is really. I didn't watch the last three years of Reading building a team to see players like him replaced by overpaid twatsticks.

Part of me thinks "ah, f/ck 'em" - players don't show clubs any loyalty when push comes to shove. Would Hunt n' Church turn down a 'better' club? Nah. Football is business for them, and is business for us too.

But part of me thinks I oxf*rd' love the lads who got us here; they are our guys and I've become attached to whoever makes the team what it is. Defoe/Owen/Rooney may keep us in the Prem, but is he our guy? Nah, he's anyone's f/ckin' guy.

So, torn really. Want to see Reading do well and that requires the right players. But want to feel like we've help create the right players rather than just buy them from someone else.

I want to see the likes of Le Fondre (especially) given a fair chance to be successful - not to be written off and replaced without a decent opportunity to show what they can do.

I think Hunt would be selling himself short by going to Brizzle City. Not bothered whether he stays or goes to be honest, but think he could get a deal from the likes of Wolves or another team likely to challenge for promotion this season.

Wolves could be a good shout, especially with Fletcher off. Partner him back up with Doyle.

Not IN for the 'I don't care if we get relegated' club.

Happy to see the guys get a chance, but if they're not good enough they need replacing.

It's not an "I don't care if we get relegated club"

It's an "I'd rather see our players given a chance to step up to keep us up and if that fails I'll be perfectly happy to see us playing in the Championship. I'd rather we didn't just starting spending loads of money on short term mercenaries and if relegation is a consequence of this I'm ok with it club"

If we get relegated Brendy will still go to games. He'll still enjoy watching us play and win. That will happen regardless of the level we are at. Obviously he'd like us to be at the best level possible.

Can't see a huge difference tbh.

McDermott's a smart guy, he's also a loyal guy, he'll try and give as many of the current squad a chance to prove themselves. However, he knows which ones will struggle and has stregthened his squad accordingly.

I'd personally rather we build a squad capable of avoiding relegation. If that involves a majority of last season's squad then that would obviously be preferable. But we shouldn't let loyalty get in the way of reality as Coppell did in that second season.

i think hed have put fae/kebe/halford in the team if theyd given any hint that they deserved it

i kind of agree, but essentiallly its a balancing act. keeping the original squad happy, while freshening it up with new and better players.
its not easy, or an exact science
