Simon's Church Must admit, im becoming more and more confident we can get promoted this season with every passing game.

Exeter are League two for heavens sake. However a good workout for the lads to get match fit which is the aim of pre season matches. Results don't matter a damn.

On my way home in the car.

Thought we were pretty good first half, Kuhl looked very good - first time I've seen him play and have to say I was impressed. Played some cracking switch passes and was at the heart of most of our good work. Pog looked strong up top and Gunter was a threat down the wing. The team played some good possession football and a lot on the floor trying to open up Exeter.

The second half team wasn't quite so effective, getting a bit bogged down in the passing round the back four and having to lump it forward more often as Exeter pressed quite high. Exeter created the better chances and probably deserved an equaliser but for a combination of good saves from Anderson and great blocks from Pearce.

1-0 vs Exeter. Right result, from this game alone, honestly I can see promotion this year.

Ryan Edwards

is that australian kid who we ditched his brother?

The same one who struggled to get regular football in a team in Australia managed by his own dad last year on loan.

In fairness, that isn't quite true. He didn't have any trouble playing until his dad was sacked.

BFTM and I have to say that we are in deep doo doos if we are having to rely on these players for the rest of the season. If it wasn't for Andersen in goal in the second half the Exeter youngsters would have easily scored two or three. We need to wake up and smell the coffee. Sir Mad has let a goal scorer go to pay off a tax bill when it would have been better to keep Alfie, pay the bill and add the amount of tax bill on to the sale of the club.

And what was he going to pay the tax bill with? Monopoly money?

That's what he's there for.

It's a preseason friendly get over it.

No surprise that we struggled in the second half given that our front 4 were all U21's, two of which were fairly average full backs playing completely out of position.

How about the money from the naming rights for the stadium? Oh, unlike most clubs, we don't get anything for that!

Shouldn't have let us get in the shyte with HMRC in the first place - he was still in charge of the day to day running of the club and he and his disciples have always told us how well the club was being run!

Don't be such a tool. He was not in charge of the day to day running of the club when Anton was giving out all the big contracts that put us in this mess. Maybe we would just have been better off if Madejski had never bought the club in the first place.......I'll leave you to work out the answer to that one.

I thought he played for Exeter.

Anyway, good to see Premier Class Pog sticking in goals left, right and centre against a L2 side and glad to see those injuries key players suffered last season a blip in the past.

It wasn't awful, they just looked like they had just come off a big break. Lovely finish from Edwards too. Exeter were a tidy team and our defence in the second half was superb to keep them out. Pearce and Anderson were especially good. One great save from Feds as well.

To be fair, I was watching through a complete cider-befuddled haze in the wrong end being heavily influenced by the local populace. We were ok first half, no better no worse, dictated the match and were fair game for the lead. Second half Exeter changed their shape and, like us, complete personnel and cut through us on many occasions. Pearce, Kelly and Andersen ensured a clean sheet was kept but their finishing was poor. They created glorious opportunities to notch on more than one occasion, one incident where they got three shots in at close range in quick succession, hit the bar, cleared of the line then saved. One thing we can take from the game - our squad is desperately threadbare. Of the youngsters, Kuhl stood out although he's not difficult to miss. Stacey looked decent when on the ball but otherwise a bit powderpuff. Senior players, well only Pogrebnyak stood out really for just going through the motions. He won a good flick on for the goal but that was it really, nothing more of note to report.

203 Reading fans there, not 202.

'Greed with all that HH. Stacey looks like he just needs to bulk out a bit (no doubt that'll come with age) to make himself more of a presence.

Most is over 50% fwiw - from a quick count, I can think of 12/44 Premier League and Championship clubs who do so. Reading are still in the majority who don't receive naming rights money.
