60 seconds in the real world with you is all that's needed. And to quote one of your phrases, we'd all move on. Have some respect you twat

Bliley, you're coming across like and angry frimmers
Nowhere have I criticised anyone for showing respect* (each to their own), so what exactly are you now wittering on about?

*just reacting the general abuse being chucked around

I'm wittering about a 14 year old boy who was devoted to our club who died yesterday. And your point?

Oilroyal, calm yourself down. You are the one taking this thread away from its purpose.

JMW was saying nothing like you are indicating.

Just remember....

Can't believe people are arguing about this.

Club's response was correct (ie. it only happened yesterday, let us talk to the family and do something when we have time to arrange it) but the spontaneous applause is a bizarre thing to object to. What a nice thing for the family at such an impossibly difficult time.

Not really sure why oilroyal has gone mental, I presume he knew the kid and is a little hypersensitive to things that aren't there.

For the record I, as I suspect is the case for others who expressed similar views here, wasn't overly sold on the idea... particularly as I'd want to be sure the family's wishes were observed and they got to appreciate any sentiment so the next day seemed rather early for that to be possible, but obviously I joined in wholehearted when the applause started and sympathise with the loss.

Doing this sort of thing for Holly and Jessica Wells when we did it - nope.

Doing this for a 14 year old mad keen Reading fan? Yes, absolutely.

Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman - they weren't sisters.

This thread confirms that the team board will argue about anything.

Thought it was a nice gesture and lifted the atmosphere at the ground. We actually managed to get in their penalty area at the end of it.

My eyesight isn't the best, but from North stand it looked like some Charlton fans joined in too.

They did... after about 20 seconds. I think they knew it was in remembrance but didn't know why. Credit to them for respectively clapping anyway.

It made me think, as I glanced at he big useless TV in the corner... why not put the pic up of Matthew, maybe even the one with him with Noel Hunt, and a message of condolence. At least then it's clear to everyone what's happening.

I didn't hear the PA guy (you know, that annoying pr1ck with the microphone) mention it.

I'm sure a large number of Reading fans hadn't heard about it either, so it would have been good to display a message at least.

Because the club hadn't organised it. It was suggested by fans via social media. The club are probably letting the parent grieve first before asking whether they would like his picture or message strewn all over the big screen.

He only died wednesday, I'm sure the parents have got more pressing issues to deal with than communicating with a football club ffs.

Seriously why can't people just leave people alone. But no people HAVE to get involved don't they? every time! irrespective of what the family may want.

Naturally, thoughts are with the lad's family. As well as putting a lot of every day stuff in to perspective.

Question - Why is it that the select few still persist in singing 'Reading 'till I die' once tributes like these have taken place?
