It is something ridiculous, yes. Looking at the TV guide the draw is only on for an hour so I am guessing they will just wheel out a former player everyone watching will have heard of and get him to just press a giant red button that throws the teams into groups.

Go into 12 groups of 4. Top 2 qualify (24 spots) to be joined by 8 teams who drop out of the CL in the knockout rounds.

When the UEFA Europa Conference Leagues starts next year Europa will drop down to 32 teams.

Format will change as well.

Group winners will go straight to the last 16, the other 8 spots will be decided by play-offs between the group runner up and 3rd place finisher from the CL.

Idea being to give group winners an actual advantage.

Think they splt them up intentionally or they used to. I'm sure it happened in euro qualifying where they used to keep 2 teams away for political reasons.

I think there was a rule last season about potentially having RB salzburg and leipzig not being allowed in the Champs league because they are owned by Red Bull but they changed it.
