The cost of converting to terracing is likely to be much higher than you seem to assume. This stadium was built for seating and so the way the bowl is structured would need some pretty expensive amendments to it. Not only that, it is steeper than a terraced stadium would normally be.

Even if the rules were changed (and we've argued that to death on here before - to no avail) the costs are potentially higher than you think.

2) Remove the safety gate. I really don't see what purpose it serves as the home and away fans just mix round the other side of the stadium instead.

I believe Dirk Gently has covered this on previous threads - it's something to do with ensuring the flow of pedestrians around the stadium is in one direction. Or something like that...

But the safety gate makes pedestrians flow around the stadium in opposite directions - and, as WR points out, the two flows hit headlong around the other side!

I would have thought that without the gate, pedestrians would tend to flow in the same direction towards the nearest road leading away from the stadium complex.

Given that, I would have thought the only logical reason for the gate is to separate opposing supporters. Then the argument might be that emotions are highest just as they leave the stadium and that the walk around the stadium allows time for all but hard core trouble makers to calm down.

It might be steeper but the steps themselves are far wider/deeper (from front to back) than an ordinary standing terrace, therefore perhaps less risk of people stumbling forwards off them.

Since when have the club ever given a tuppennies about the rank and file supporter? I can not see any chance of any of the suggestions - sensible or otherwise getting any chance of happening. Now, if it meant an extra 0 being added to the revenue...

Rant aside, hooped seats would look good - but only when the stad is empty. Toilets outside the stadium?

I would name the stands after previous Reading legends.

I know money bollocks doesn't want to direct attention away from himself, and his usual excuse of sponsors, but you can work with both.

The Robin Friday [insert sponsor] South Stand for example.

One thing I hate about us since moving to that ground is we don't try and remember where we came from!

It would cost the football club nothing.

Long wanted the club to do this, the fans could vote for the 4 most popular names and it would nice, simple and FREE (until someone then says why does the name "The Maurice Evans Stand" not appear on the outside of the stand somewhere, it should do).

West Stand Man, have you seen how steep that terrace is at Dortmund, the one they convert to seating for European games? My suggestion wasn't totally serious, by the way.

It would still cost a fortune and would not increase the capacity as you would have to have a railing running the full length of each row due to the step down being so big. That would be a huge cost for no monetary benefit to the club.

You may as well turn Y24 - 26 to face the South Stand rather than the pitch. It seems that most of the people who sit there face that way for 90 minutes anyway.
