Went to Cathkin Park last week - home of Third Lanark, who folded in 1967 due to gross financial mismanagement and fraud by their owners.

An eerie place ...

seen pictures of this place before (somewhere), must’ve been something decent back in its day (a little sad, a bit like what’s left of the Brooklands race track nowadays)

Does somebody paint those crowd barriers occasionally? they look in good nick.

Anfield Road is coming along.



Gutted to see Tranmere want to leave Prenton Park, and for a 15,000 capacity stadium too. I know there will be corporate improvements, but PP is a decent ground.

Great memories there in the play-off final in 95, and a great half and half pub outside the ground too which couldn't have been more friendly.

What I meant was that the fabric of the ground (stands, curved terracing) was pretty much as was in its heyday. Obviously it was a photo taken after the club folded. Gives you an idea of what it looked like

I love the way that the council still maintain the pitch but nature is fighting to reclaim the rest of the footprint.

Found this little snippet about the demise of Third Lanark

Avarice, dishonesty, criminality and corporate skulduggery did for Third Lanark in the end, the victim of owner, Bill Hiddleston, who was intent on running the club into the grubber and selling their ground for private housing.

Former full-back Tony Connell said: “Hiddleston died of a heart attack in Blackpool later in 1967 and I’ll never forget one of my former team-mates expressing surprise because we never knew he had a heart in the first place.”

Lovely little pavilion at Cathkin Park. Was a feature of some early Scottish grounds and some built by the famous stadium architect Archibald Leach.

That's the new Main Stand, and Kop to the right.

No, it's the new main stand to the right. It's the Anfield Rd end that's being done which is the opposite end to the Kop. What's might be confusing is that they are building the stand extention behind the existing Anfield Rd stand, effectively a second tier that will meet the existing stand.

That stand to the right is not the new main stand. The new main stand on the left side is brick. Check out the link above and the drone footage.

And there isn't an orange crane in that location, it's yellow.

The main stand sides are brick. The photo posted above is not brick, so that can't be the main stand to the right. Watch the drone footage from the 8th June. 2 mins 3 seconds.

Orange cranes were used in the photo that On Strings posted, and that, as my pic below, was the Main Stand development.

The Anfield Road crane is bright yellow, as per the drone footage 2 days ago.

Here's a side view of The Kop which matches the pic On Strings posted. He has posted the development of the new main stand.

Also the height of the Anfield Road expansion isn't close to that height yet.

Actually, you are right. Apologies. They are redeveloping the stand is very similar way and it didn't look big enough to be the old main stand on the photo

I was picking my son up from the Stones gig last night so saw it from the Stanley Park car park across the road. I my defence, it was dark and I wasn't paying much attention to the brickwork.

Shame there's no scope to redevelop the other two stands.

Incidentally, the footprint for Bramley Moor is beginning to take some shape as well.

My sister is one of the senior Laing O'Rourke engineers on that one.
