Raheem Sterling takes the no7 shirt at City and prepares to follow in the footsteps of club legends such as Spencer Prior, Darren Huckerby and Stephen Ireland.

Zammo A few experts on TalkSport comparing Sterling with Sinclair and Rodwell's move to MCFC. Not even close. Forget the money paid for him....this is a quality player. Tons better than Nasri, so he'll start.

Not sure about that, he hasn't really proven anything yet. For me he has a lot of potential but needs to work on his end product, especially his finishing. Never worth £50m, I'd say £30m at most, but you have to take into account he's only 20, English and today's increasingly stupid valuations of players.

Yeah I'm not convinced he's anything other than a souped-up Aaron Lennon yet.

£50m for someone so young and relatively unproven is awesome business from Liverpool

Too one footed and his pace somtimes he overtakes the ball. Hit and miss with shooting ability. Not worth the money. A poor mans Walcott who I would rate a lot higher but but for injuries.

We'd all rate Walcott, what with the amount of goals he scores against us! I do agree though.

Can't believe people are comparing Sterling to Walcott and Lennon!

He's a much better player than the pair of them already, let alone what he could become is he fulfils his potential. Neither of them have his close control or dibbling ability and neither have shown his awareness.

Obviously he's not the finished article by any means, and he's nowhere near clinical enough yet, but for a club where money doesn't really matter the price isn't too bad. It's over priced but City just wanted to get their man.

Hopefully he gets to play consistently and Pep comes in next summer and takes him to the next level and then England will have a real player on their hands.

Interesting HB but by what measure do you think Sterling is better than Walcott already? I'd say a souped up Aaron Lennon isn't far off the mark. Sure the potential might be there for more (although I'm not 100% sold on that) but he's not achieved anything in the game that Walcott has, despite him also being an underachiever.

I just think Sterling is a better player, with better vision (no pun), better ball control and he's stronger and perhaps more flexible and less of a one trick pony.

Walcott had a very good purple patch not too long before his injury, and his goals output is still better than Sterlings obviously, and he's shown glimpses of excellence but I just don't get the feeling he's ever as much of an individual threat.

Sterling has led the line for Liverpool, he's played as the 10, as an out and out winger and even as a wing back at times. I'd still say he's much more likely to pick a clever pass or ping one in from 25 yards than Walcott who seemed to have matured a fair bit as a player but I'd still expect to pick the wrong option far too often.

From the outside Walcott has by far the better attitude though.

Have to say I think I disagree with pretty much all of that ;-)

There's a fair chance I'm wrong of course as an awful lot of people seem convinced of Sterling's potential greatness. However he's had one good season (when Suarez and Sturridge were flying) and he definitely stalled last year. As far as picking the right option I think he invariably gets it wrong and I'd actually back Walcott as a far better finisher.

I'm still far from convinced that Sterling is much more than a speedy kid with quick feet but a muddled head. Time will tell I guess

He's by no means the finished product but as much as his season tailed off I think he was excellent for Liverpool for much of last season when, as a 5'6" 19 year old, he led the line when Sturridge was injured and then tore into teams when back on the wing.

Once the contract and Man City speculation kicked off his form seemed to suffer but he (and Coutinho of course) did well for them before that distraction.

Walcott has Fabregas, Carzola, Ozil, Sanchez, Ramsey, Wilshire, Rosicky etc pulling the strings

Sterling had an old Gerrard, Coutinho, Allen and Henderson

This is the thing though. he led the line but wasn't very good and I really cannot recall him tearing into teams on the wing at all really bar from the odd game. Ala Walcott really and he at least had returning from another bad injury as an excuse..

I'm just not seeing what you, and to be fair many others, see with him.

Maybe it's just that I'm being overly harsh on Walcott as opposed to saying that Sterling is that great.

Sterling certainly has lots to work on but I think he did a pretty good job leading the line and still caused teams lots of problems when he was back in a more familiar wide position. Can't really recall specific games, but I seem to remember good performances against City (I wonder why!) and Southampton in the latter stages of the season.

Benteke says he has joined Liverpool to win trophies. Villa got closer to winning a trophy last season.

Christian Benteke has been given Liverpool's Number 9 shirt, worn previously by the likes of Ian Rush and Robbie Fowler, following his £32.5m move from Aston Villa. (Daily Express)

I wonder why they didn't mention No 9 Andy Carroll.

Same reason they did not name Anelka, Cisse, Torres

FFS how offside was Bentekes goal. The offside rule is becoming a joke now.

Nothing wrong with the law, just its application.
