Top Flight isn't most on here.
Top Flight might not be most on here but Top Flight expectations are at least set at the correct level for this season unlike perhaps most on here.
To be honest, anyone who was at the Preston game should have seen this result coming. We got too caught up in the feel good factor and thought our good run would continue. The truth was we could have easily lost against Preston as well the way we were messing about at the back. We gave Preston two gilt edged opportunities and managed to get away with it.
I think we all knew this kind of result was coming. I thought it would happen against Newcastle rather than Wolves as Wolves are another team going through a transitional season.
This will happen many more times as the club transitions to a new style of football. Clearly we need a new footballing centre back. And certainly we need a strong striker. Maybe Mendes can play the role, but I think we need someone as a top priority.
I can't see how Cooper can fit in to this style of football. Cooper is an excellent prospect and a very good player. But he definitely will not fit Stam's style.
I hope Stam can get the players he needs in the next couple of weeks otherwise relegation remains a strong possibility.
Overall, I'm impressed with the work that Stam has done in a short period working with the lads on the training ground. Given enough time he will make it work.
His footballing style is coming from the Johan Cruyuff school of thought. It is the same thing that Pep Guardiola is trying to implement at Man City. Barcelona are the blue print for this way of playing the game.
