I think that the point is that RFC aren't helping themselves with the customers that think on a friday night/saturday morning "hmmm I'm going to goto the footy" Then realise that they haven't got a membershipcard so they can't attend.

Also, on the paying for a membership card, I would be pretty outraged if my bank charged me for my bank card everytime it got lost or renewed or opened a new bank account. Surely this membership card falls into the same category?? (in a round-about-way)

But they can, if someone turns up tomorrow willing to pay £23 to get in, do you honestly think the club will turn them away. They may try to sell or even give them a member card but if they don't want one they will issue a paper ticket for the game.

Oh right, I've had a st for 9 years now, so have never had to get a membership card, but assumed that if you didn't have a membership card then you would have to apply for one before you'd get a matchday ticket. Maybe the club need to advertise the fact that you can turn up on the day and get a ticket for the match (if thats what you're saying they do).

Do you really think making a new member card is cheaper than making a new bank card? Consider this carefully - bank cards are just plastic and cheap to make, whereas member cards have software chips in them.

You were saying that you would be outraged if banks charged you for replacing the bank cards. I say it's because the bank cards are just a bit of plastic, which is different to Reading's member cards.

Well, I'm sure they have reasons for charging for the replacement of a card. You could try asking them.

Been reading with this with some interest as I am in exactly the same situation, I am bringing two friends up on Sat who will never be likely to attend a Reading game again. I mentioned about the palaver of having to register them as members, get hold of their DOB full addresses etc etc (bollockache that was) and pay for a member card and asked what would happen if we rolled up on match day and wanted a ticket and was told that they would still have to be registered as members and get cards printed there and then When I said that this policy would probably affect and restrict casual fans from turning up, I could feel the shoulders being shrugged from over the telephone, and a retort of "well that's how its is".

See this is what annoys me about RFC. It seems to me that all they are up for is customer exploitation. "oxf*rd what they think. Lets charge them anyway. After all, they are gonna pay it, why wouldn't they - they support RFC god-dam-it. They may not be happy to pay for it, but they'll buckle in the end."

I asked about this at the RFC management meeting today and got the response that it is possible, without a member card, to walk up on a Saturday and buy a ticket if it is not a selll-out.

However they would prefer new supporters to get a member card and pointed out that although it costs £2 you can then buy both online and in advance (and hence getting a discount on the on-the-day price) that exceeds the £2 and is there for any future games you come to as well so the assumption that the charge for a member card is to raise funds is erroneous.

It is also possible now to buy extra tickets for your mates on your member card but as before they would rather your mate got his own member card but there is no problem getting a ticket for, say, someone who has never been before and may never come again.

Can you send me a mail to info@star-reading.org with all the details please - when you went to the TO, what you were told etc etc and I will take it up with the TO so that we can all find out the exact pocedure (rather than the senior staff having made the decision) or who in the TO needs retraining - whichever.,,
