A lot of that is true apart from the top four rubbish. The likes of millwall, leeds, cardiff, west ham, sheffield clubs are all fans who make a lot of noise amongst a host of other clubs. Liverpool get given this big appraisal for their support but its actually poor unless they are playing a club bigger than themselves or a European game, same with united or chelsea and tottenham in some respects. Can't agree with that at all.Pridders wrote:Ok I am a Reading fan, well a plastic one really and I don't mind that. I was a season ticket holder for 05/06 and 07/08 but now quite frankly I have better things to do at weekends. Something I noticed though when going to the games and have always noticed when seeing footage on tv etc... Reading fans they are just...well... dull... They either look like geeky students or over weight, real ale swelling bearded old men. You never get that passion like you see with Liverpool, United, Spurs, Chelski or big clubs like Newcastle. Those fans just seem "more up for it" you can see it in their eyes. I would love to follow a big 4 club to be part of that passion and belief, I just cant though as I follow Reading and always will, just wish it had the same energy as some other clubs.

FiNeRaIn wrote:Reading fans aren't working class, which is why. Millwall, cardiff, man utd( away fans), leeds, etc all hail from working class city's with traditional working class support. The working class are more passionate about their football than the middle to upper class who try and bring logic to the game. " Im here to be entertained" attitude bla bla. They aren't passionate about their area or community so aren't vocal about it, simple. I'd be prepared to say a lot of readings support probably don't have family roots in the area.
I went to sheffield to stay with a few mates and they are either utd or wednesday, one or the other and the culture is football every saturday win or lose. There isn't that culture in Reading, lots of people half heartedly support a prem club and go shopping in the oracle.
No tradition in reading for the footballing culture. Not worth moaning about, thats just how it is.
Which stand did you sit in at Burnley?muddyfeet wrote:Shame as reckon we have alot of passionate fans who have supported the teams for years and were brought up in Reading - perhaps they are outnumbered but those which arent. We do seem alot more vocal at away games. Thought the Burnley away support was rubbish tbh

NR_Royal wrote:Tbf, the away support is decent. We like to make ourselves heard.
It's just at home where the noise is lacking. It was decent on Saturday, but for a normal league game, only Y25/26 make any noise.
We tend to bring more to games that are closer to us and in recent years the number of clubs nearby has diminished and so has the away support. We take good numbers to Bristol, QPR, Palace but where else is within 2 hours or so? Compare that to a Sheffield United fan who has half the league within 2 hours and it's not surprising that we've got a small away following week in week out.FiNeRaIn wrote:The away noise isn't terrible, the numbers however are. I remember when we won the league everyone was astonished how few fans we bought away from home.
