Actual title race alert in Ligue 1. PSG lost at Monaco and Marseille could only draw with Toulouse. Allowed Lens to go top of the table with a 3-0 home win over Nantes. They've won the league just once in their history, in 1997/98. Runners-up three years ago.

Makes up for 'only' two goals in his last five league games. He's got 17 goals in 13 league games now this season, 28 in 22 in all competitions. For context, 28 goals would beat or equal four of his nine full seasons at Spurs.

Bayern's next three games are against teams in the bottom four.

Fwiw they dropped 11 points out of 102 in setting the Bundesliga record of 91 points in a season, in 2012-13. Just two so far this.

Bloke who ran the club and had a firm controlling hand on everything, Joe Barone, died suddenly during last season. Raffaele Palladino, their manager that got them into Europe, quit in the summer with no job offer from elsewhere and having just extended his contract, because he said behind the scenes he no longer liked what was going on and the club was heading in the wrong direction. the Sporting Director, who usually worked together with Barone, was left on his own to make lots of decisions and find a new manager and handle transfers, and he chose Stephano Pioli, a former manager and someone with a decent record, but it didn't work and lots of players were still unhappy at Palladino leaving, Pioli then got sacked, the Sporting Director then got sacked, and now you have a bunch of people running a club that are not experienced, they chose a new manager who had only managed in Serie A for 1 season before, a season which he got sacked at the end of. and on top of all of that they apparently made some silly panicked transfer decisions this summer, and are now reliant on a forward they spent €25M + €4M on who has scored 1 goal.

hadn't realised at all that Serie A have dropped the winter break for this season. They say its down to too many international fixtures meaning they can't break as the domestic fixtures would build up too much.

AEK Athens top of the Greek league, with Luka Jovic scoring the goals for them and Joao Mario in midfield. olympiacos usually win the league there and AEK have only won 2 titles in the last 30 years

AGF 4 points clear at the top of the Danish Superliga with 4 games to go. They were last champions 40 years ago.

Update on clubs booted out of leagues:

Vitesse - finally admitted back into the 2nd tier of Dutch football after the season started, and they were told to start on minus points. They are currently 2nd from bottom. there is no relegation from that division.

Boavista - they remain in the 4th tier of the amateur district league in Porto. A group of Boavista's apparently violent ultra's set up a phoenix club last summer, got it entered into the league system and were put into the 4th tier of the amateur district league in Porto, so would then have to face Boavista, but when they were due to play that game Boavista just didn't turn up and allowed the phoenix club to be awarded the win by default as there would have been trouble

Bordeaux - Currently top of the amateur French 4th tier on goals scored. only 1 team goes up automatically and the top of the table has 5 teams separated by 2 points.

Brescia - financially dissolved last season so don't exist now, but Union Brescia were established last summer, were allowed into Serie C and are currently in 2nd place in their regional league, but there is only 1 automatic promotion place and they are 11 points behind the leaders Vicenza

I always enjoy when football in one countrys takes words or expressions from another.was reminded of 2 in the last day or so:

In italy managers are referred to as 'Mister', taken from when the English were first helping to professionalise the game over there

also this week is an 'Englische Woche' in the Bundesliga, which translates as English Week. That is when teams have a full round of league fixtures midweek as well as having played the weekend before and will play the weekend after.

The good thing with the Englishe Woche is that 1 game on Tuesday and 1 on Weds kicks off at 18.30 - so you can watch 2 games on both evenings if you wish - or the Konferenz which shows all the late games at the same time.

Albacete are one of the clubs to have retained 'balompié' in their official name, and I instinctively warm to those.
