Both Salah and VvD signed 2 year extensions and are therefore contracted until the summer of 2027. Salah could go on playing at a high level, like Ronaldo, as he keeps himself in as prime a condition as possible. It is extremely unlikely Liverpool will extend either deal beyond 2027 though as they look to identify replacements over the next couple of years. Some suggestions that Michael Olise has already been earmarked to pick up from SalahSouth Coast Royal wrote:I'm not sure but I think it is 2 further years beyond this season.BRO_BOT wrote:Just had a quick look for a heatmap for him, but couldn't find one. Did you watch the game?
From the few glances that I had Maguire was grappling in the opposition box.
BTW , Maguire replacing Shaw-is this 2020 or is it 2025?
Shaw, Maguire, and Casemiro are the type of players Utd would love to shift off the books. Difficult to do as they were awarded ridiculous contracts by the previous management regime. Out of interest, how long are Salah and VVD's new contracts?
Mo in particular looks as though he could even match Ronaldo for fitness and VVD hardly breaks into a sweat so they could well remain near to or at the top of their game for quite some time yet.
These two do fit into the too often overused "world class" category IMHO and they really can't be compared to the likes of Shaw (particularly because of his injury record) or Maguire.
Man Utd are in the fortunate position when compared with any other club than Real Madrid that, because they are minted from long term merchandising, they can almost just keep on buying until they eventually get it right.
Fortunately for the rest of the teams in England the "getting it right" still looks to be a long way off.
Konate is more the issue I think, has looked awful for the last 6 months, like his mind is elsewhere for some reason.6ft Kerplunk wrote:Maybe he should try it and Liverpool might concede less.South Coast Royal wrote:VVD hardly breaks into a sweat.

22 Aug 2025 15:29I know you now live on the doorstep but I probably know more committed reds than you do and the consensus is that he is doing fine and is entitled to 3 or 4 errors over a season. From Despair To Where? wrote:Not the opinion of a lot of Liverpool fans I know.South Coast Royal wrote:I think they are doing rather well as it is and are quite happy with his overall game.6ft Kerplunk wrote: Maybe he should try it and Liverpool might concede less.

22 Aug 2025 16:59I suppose when you have been the very best in the world any errors are highlighted because they are so rare and even a 90% Virgil is better IMHO than nearly all centre-backs in world football. From Despair To Where? wrote:I know about a dozen season ticket holders, 5 or 6 of whom go to pretty much all away games, including Europe, plus maybe another 20 who go to around 10 home games a season when work and ticket availability permits.
I'd say they're fairly committed.
I hear quite frequent grumbles about VVD plus the general feeling last season was that if he didn't sign, it wasn't a major crisis because he had maybe 2 more years in him and they needed to line up his replacement. Last week they were really laying into him for being behind the rest of the defence for Bournemouth's first goal. "FFS Virgil, playing him onside again". To be fair, they're less impressed with Konate.

22 Aug 2025 17:12Lol, you started the dick waving. I don't even support Liverpool so have no skin in the game but do talk football with a lot of Liverpool fans and can only reflect the general flow of how they feel about their club. I have no real opinion and am completely uneffected either way.South Coast Royal wrote: Obviously you made your comments from a straw poll of a few but I don't want to get into the "I know more fans than you" dick-waving contest even if it is the case so I will let it rest there and just hope that by the end of the season you and they will look back and consider the extension of the contract to the top man will have proven worthwhile.
