What his stats demonstrate beyond all doubt is that the home stands are being filled to almost full capacity and, for most fixtures, to the point where only single seats remain.

In the real world, that means we need to expand the stadium should we wish to expand the fan base.

On other hand, in the world inhabited by Terry and June, any perceived drop in demand, however small, has to be clung to as if their very lives depend upon it, because there lies just the remotest chance that attendances will fall through the floor.

There's more chance of them being struck by lightening but it's the last chance saloon for their narrow minded views and the only alternative would be to admit that they were wrong.....................and if that isn't sad, I don't know what is.

His statistics demonstrate the gap between capacity and tickets sold, that is not the same as illustrating the fall in demand.

I've long ago accepted that you don't have the intelligence to understand this and that your capacity to discuss this doesn't extend beyond posting the sort of embarrasingly infantile rubbish that you just have.

Both Skyline and I have pointed out that his stats were not intended to demonstrate the strength of demand, merely to show that we have very few, if any, spare home seats and, therefore, we will need a bigger stadium should we avoid relegation and quite possibly if we don't........................but, as ever, you only read what you want to read.

maybe I've missed the discussion but has anyone else noticed the clubs shift in policy as regards the expansion, from talking about when to an IF ?

When first raised, the expansion was supposed to start at the end of the 06-07 season, then put back due to its potential impact on current seating capacity.

Now I hear Mr Mad radio 5 before the Arsenal game talking about how it was for "someone else" to take over the club and start the stadium expansion. Then today we have Nigel Howe on the official site saying 'along with the potential development of Madejski Stadium into a 38,000 capacity'

It sounds like unless we find a buyer then there wont be any expansion, in fact I'd go as far to cynically say it was always going to be this way and getting the planning permission was a key factor in making the club a more attractive proposition to a buyer.

If there is a potential sale on the cards then inevitably any major capital expenditure comes into question. Why should JM pay for something that he'll get no benefit from ?

Whether a sale is in the offing is an unknown quantity and depends who you talk to. I do know that work is ongoing in terms of putting everything in place to do the expansion.

I know this has gone round in circles - but just for the hard of reading let me re-iterate where Schard and I happen to be coming from: We have stated that we're NOT against expansion per se, but feel it would be more prudent if we waited another couple of seasons at least. If we spend another 2/3 season in the Prem, we should expand as it would seem likely we could be in the Prem for a few more to come, if we struggle this year and just avoid relegation and do the same or are relegated next season, then we feel that a 30,000+ seater stadium for a Championship club would be madness. To try and support our thoughts, we have pointed out that, as it is, demand for tickets has fallen, to the extent that it is now possible to get tickets for some games even if you don't have a member card. As this would appear to indicate that many of those who wanted to go last year, are not so keen this year, then we felt that the club should be very wary of ploughing ahead with an expansion which could see us with swathes of empty seats at the majority of games. I do hope this helps.

Seems fairly prudent if Mad will be leaving us in the next few seasons. Given that a takeover at any sort of value will only happen should we stay in the Premiership, and 15-20,000 crowds in the Championship, it would make sense for the expansion to be funded by new owners, i.e. that it will only go ahead if we look like a stable Premier League club.

I thought about pointing out that I have never argued that we are not close to selling most games out, only that demand has fallen, and that i'm not completely against the extention, merely suggesting that the decision should not be made until the end of the season, but you've demonstrated your inability to comprehend this so often that it seemed a waste of a post.

Which is indeed fair enough.

The problem with that is when is long enough? For example, Charlton have been adding additional seats to The Valley for a while having been in the top flight for 5 years - two years later they are back in the Championship with a bigger ground.
