What I find hilarious about Carroll is that he has performed for half a season in the Premiership. he undoubtedly has potential, but so many players do and flop. Andy Johnson and James Beattie were as proven as Andy Carroll in the early stages of their careers. £35million.

Newcastle dont need to sell, and with the window shutting very soon they are hoping Liverpool will suddenly up it another few million.....Newcastle can see £50m coming in from Torres and want as much as it as possible.

Scenario - Liverpool have managed to get Chelsea to spend £50m on Torres. As much of an asset to Liverpool as Torres is, that's a huge deal. £50m.

To then spend two thirds of that on Andy Carroll would be nothing short of disgraceful.

I suppose I'm assuming that Newcastle will be safe but if they really are worried about their safety I can see it a little more. Maybe they're also thinking of letting him go in the summer and having more time to use the funds to strengthen elsewhere.
