I guess he means the next FIFA President is a "target" for praise and admiration from those he has introduced to football, taking football to places where it can't be played outside for most of the year due to inclement conditions, while those who have not received a Presidential hug and benefited from the rewards of serving Football might think the President is a "target" for less agreeable reasons, being such a corruption champion, he wins all the time, a true PR expert spinning stories that make a well known Burnley fan look second division.

It was Zammo who asked the question about evidence against Blatter-if only you and others would read things properly rather than diving in with your size 12s you would realise that my input was to point out that in this country we have a habit of picking on foreign hate figures just because we don't get our own way (latterly our pathetic world cup bid where we sent the 3 stooges).
In my lifetime there was Charles de Galle followed by many French and German presidents and EU leaders seen as anti-English.
As a nation we seem to have lost the art of diplomacy whether that be the FA in terms of world football, the MCC in world cricket or currently our very own slimeball (to use RR's word relating to Blatter) Cameron in his pathetic attempts to change the terms of our EU membership.
We want to be part of everything but also want to tell the foreigners what to do, forgetting that this is 2015 and not 1815 when we were very busy telling the world what to do and using force (not diplomacy) to get our own way.

Back to Blatter and FIFA-it's surely a good thing that the Yanks are doing their best to expose corruption with the help of their own freeloader turned witness and the outcome might be that there is greater openness concerning world cup bids and who knows, if the FA manages to continue to supress details of fans' violence that still exist in this country and manages to convince FIFA that this is a safe country in which to hold a tournament, we might get the world cup again in 2066.

Zammo asked as a question as to what the evidence was against the FIFA President, up until now it has been well hidden and only alleged, but most accept that something is not right and when someone says they will step down and then turns out to be standing again and others who express an interest in standing quickly disappear again to leave only someone who is independently wealthy to oppose the FIFA President it kind of hints of something being a miss. Zammo's question appears to be answered.

But then someone else starts on about the nasty British taking an islander approach, well!

Seems if you express a view and are a light skinned, English speaker male you will always be open to be told that your views are not political correct for one reason or another.

There were a couple of interesting points discussed on Newsnight last night about this.

First, FIFA made a schoolboy error pissing off the USA bid team. Presumably they just saw them as footballing minnows rather than backed by the world police.

The bribes were done in US$ so that's why the FBI is interested, their Foreign and Corrupt Practises Act. That has worldwide reach.

The idea of Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) is to make it illegal for companies and their supervisors to influence anyone with any personal payments or rewards. The FCPA applies to any person who has a certain degree of connection to the United States and engages in foreign corrupt practices. The Act also applies to any act by U.S. businesses, foreign corporations trading securities in the U.S., American nationals, citizens, and residents acting in furtherance of a foreign corrupt practice whether or not they are physically present in the U.S.

If (when) Blatter wins tomorrow, David Gill will not take his seat as UEFA Ex-co member. A good move from the various GB FAs. Sadly I'm sure we will be the only ones to take this action and it will only be symbolic as UEFA are already back tracking on their threat to boycott the vote/ future meetings.

Not sure whether you have noticed before but that's the way these topics tend to go-off on tangents.
To do my bit in trying to make sure that this topic reverts to a FIFA discussion rather than extending my view that we as a nation tend in a blinkered way only to see bad in foreigners and good in our own I'll refrain from posting anymore.
