I don't see it as an "I'm better than you" issue. I'm just somewhat bemused by it. I can think of no other form of entertainment where a large section of the audience just get up and walk out before the end. I'm merely curious to know what goes through the mind of someone who is prepared, particularly when the score is even, to get up and potentially miss the best part of a match having paid so much to do so.

It has already been explained very well on this and many other threads, simply that football takes too much of most folks day, a game that does not end till almost 7pm on a saturday impinges on other commitments, getting trapped n the queues to get home is a reality now, and the only real way is to leave early for many people, my dad leaves about 5 mins to go in case he missed the Woodley bus, he is 77 and does not walk fast, already been pointed out that those buses do not hang about for long as the drivers also want to get home.

Used to be able to get a 17 at the 3 Tuns and hour before KO at EP, and arrive in plenty of time, now the Woodley buses leave at 1hour and 45 mins before KO, for a ground that is closer than EP, if folk could get away earlier, then O feel sure not so many would leave early, it is most noticable in evening games rather thean the 3pm KO's tho.

Time is what is the problem, not the game itself.

Then why can't you grasp that it is because people want to get way from the ground quickly rather than spend 15 minutes trying to exit their stand and then either queue for another 15 minutes to get out of the car park or 30 minutes queueing for a bus, and this is especislly true if they have somewhere else important to go.

but those that leave glowing, or glowering (dependant on which way the one goal advantage is hanging) defy all logic.

Personally I'd weld fans arses to their seats from kick-off time until full-time............the pre and post half-time distractions (as they buy their coffee/smoke their fags/buy their gelled fat snack) spoil my view of the game too

Leaving quickly won't make a great deal of difference. When there are several hundred of the feckers somebody's view is going to obstructed.

Personally, anyone who puts football before family doesn't deserve to have a family. Make fun of that if you want, but it would just show what a sad individual you are.

Speaking of which, a friend of mines girlfriend is expecting their first child during the football season. The first thing he did when he found out was not run around yelling about how excited he is. In fact he did not even hug her. He asked her the due date and then went and checked to see if he was going to miss a game due to his baby being born.

Does that make him a good supporter or just a bit of a twat?

yeah, but I park in the speedway car park, and it's clear by the time I get back (and I don't hang about after the final whistle) that loads must have left early to drive off early.
Now I can sort of understand that if you are stuck in the main car park, where you might be there for an hour, but the speedway car park isn't like that at all. You get out really quickly. It's rare that you have to wait more than five minutes before getting on the A33.

So a tip to all speedway parkers - you do not need to leave early to get out of the car park quickly. Trust me. Just try it at the next match.

Thanks for all your comments - constructive and insulting alike - not sure why people are like that but hey ho!

When the new stadium areas are built perhaps we could have a section for those who want to get away early. Personally I like to see the finish to something I have paid £60 to watch. Fortunately I have few to obstruct my view but if it was I would be incensed. The game lasts 90+ minutes, I usually get a couple of beers after and can be back in Caversham by 18.00 - just be patient, respect other and don't be so selfish. Perhaps we could carry this attitude into other walks of life, leave church services, funerals, doctors appointments early. How about having some good manners?

When the stadium was in the latter stages of construction and you had the chance to pick your season ticket seat we specifically went for ones in the middle of a block so we wouldn't have to keep getting up and down for people leaving early or going to the bog.

How about we ask for the games to start at 2:30 rather than 3. That would give everyone 30 minutes "runway time". Some people might even see the end of the game and get home earlier than they do today.

Those that are normally in a hurry to get away before 5 would be on their way around 4:30. This means nobody would need to leave early.
