ive been wanting the club to take on the idea of stand naming for a while, i just never knew who to approach about it.
i know corperate sponsorship of stands brings in much revenue but id much rather stand in 'the Death end' or ' the Friday stand' than the fosters end!
i think its a little too soon to be calling for a stand to be named after Steve. when the dust settles then its possible.

Even though the club constantly churn out the old guff about sponsorship, I am with you on this.

Seriously, there needs to be a poll based on the most popular people associated with the club. The only draw back is what happens in say 10 to 20 years when all parts of the stadium are named and we go and do something daft like win a major honour?

I would like to see SSC honoured in such a way. The Evans family want nothing more than a plaque. How about something for Frank Orton? or Sydenham? The guy who got the ball rolling to start with. Why dont we have a hall of fame and induct players into it and once inducted their numbers retired. OK, sounds a bit yank but...

What I would suggest is change the name of the Jazz Club or whatever it is called to Friday's.

Legal problem with TGI's would almost certainly prevent that one.

i presume that is aimed at me? i think youll find im not new at all... merely accessing from my work computer which has somehow managed to reduce my posts count... why i bother to responed to someone who cant take caps lock off is beyond me but hey...
youll also find that despite your very important opinion, the club will also tell you its way to early to name a stand after a man that left little more than a month ago! it would cost the club thousands in revenue, theyd want to make sure its a viable thing that people want, thus have to gauge when emotions arent so high.

Except, of course, plenty of Mancs still refer to the real names of the ends of Old Trafford. My aunt's season ticket was very much in the Stretford End, not the (ummm...?) West Stand, and the (ummm...?) South Stand is still the Main Stand to a lot of people. Don't tend to hear the Scoreboard End called that so much, though; I have a feeling the North Stand may always have been that.

North Stand is known as 'United Road' as it runs parallel to United Road. The official names of all the stands used to be letters with J and K Stand still being widely used be anyone that’s been going for any decent length of time.

Why name a stand after a manager who only managed one good season every three years? Perhaps we can have a Brendan Rodgers stand when he shows him up for what he was - severely overrated.

To an extent Coppell's tenure maybe looked back on with exaggerated fondness to say his tenure was overrated and then to belittle the achievement made by him and his coaching staff just smacks of a lack of football knowledge, or as someone that is here on a wind up.

Coppell having spent a fraction of what his predecessor spent as well as a fraction of most clubs in the cHampionship produced a side of very nearly invincibles. 33 matches unbeaten, 99 goals, 106 points and 2 defeats in 46, from a team of misfits, lower league players or youngsters. Coppell changed the entire philosphy and ethos of Reading football club from Pardew. Under Pardew it was a strict routine, the team played 4-5-1 and was heavily reliant on certain individuals, high levels of fitness and work rate. We were regarded as a club that spent a lot of money to achieve our success, nothing wrong with that but that was the perception. Coppell brought a more relaxed style, 4-4-2 heavily reliant on wing play and a bit more finesse. It took him a while to change Pardew's old habits and to really get HIS team out there and for 2 years it blossomed quite brilliantly.

I still remember that News of the World article claiming Humpty Dumpty had more chance of staying up than Reading on the eve of our game with Middlesbrough. Again Coppell's budget squad finished way above expectations in 8th place. Seen what happened to Hull 2nd half of the season,Coppell's team did it for 38 games, not 15.

Coppell always spoke with great affection for the club and the people here,he conducted himself with great dignity win or lose and was a superb ambassador as well as manager for Reading FC. He did a remarkable job for those 2 years and has taken the club to heights it's never been and possibly (doubtful and i hope not) but possibly may never reach again.

We all know and he admitted himself his loyalty to players was what cost the club it's PRemiership status, fear of breaking up the squad that had given him such success, easy from the outside saying he should go and he's crap etc we all do it, but I imagine it's mouch tougher when you actually know these people and as much as you need to stay 'the boss' it's tougher to make a call on a certain player.

I personally was on the fence if COppell should stay or not last year. I felt having listened to him at the fans forum he knew where he'd gone wrong but again he didn't act enough on it last season. Reading somehow finished 4th in a 3 horse race and the season fizzled out in a really uninspiring way. Shame that Coppell's time ended that way.

1 thing for sure Steve Coppell achieved more than any other Reading manager i history, unlike Pardew he saw the job through with dignity and honour from day 1 till the final day.

Brendan Rodgers is a young manager with the club at heart and hopefully he can bring yet another fresh outlook on the club and take it forward. No guarantees on that and he has a new world of expectation on him which the others didn't really have. But if and when rodgers gets Reading up it won't be a continuation of Coppell's work, just like Coppell's wasn't of Pards.
