I'm struggling to get my head around how they can be punished in the league for essentially cheating yet in the same season face no sanctions in the Cup and manage to progress to the final.

Surely, a rule change is needed whereby any club in admin cannot compete in the cup competitions.

A few years ago (1995?) Spurs were banned from the FACup for financial irregularities to do with Sugar and Venables, but were re-instated before the 3rd round started. So in some ways there's a delicious irony that they should get knocked out by a team that is in administration.

In the papers the few days leading up to the game David james was saying the FA cup win and the expense of being in the UEFA cup crippled the club. So now what are they trying to do now while in administration?

I thought it was more the additional contractual payments attached to them winning the cup and playing in Europe that cost them. They no longer have these and being in the CCC next year this would maximise income.

They won't be allowed in anyway plus they won't win the cup so it's a moot point.

Given that Chelsea are going to be in the Not-really-the-Champions-but-however-many-teams-we-want-to-let-in League next year, wouldn't their Europa Cup place for winning the FA Cup go to the losing finalists? Isn't that how Millwall got into the UEFA Cup a few years ago.
