Yeah, tbh I have a lot of respect for Germany and they are not the enemy anymore. We have a lot in common with them. Russia should be called " the nazis" these days as they have 70,000 activists in that area which is more than the rest of the world combined.

Switched to this game at about 20 mins. Germany were 1-0 up....I watched all of about 2 mins of them passing the ball between the defence...utterly dull if they are going to shut up shop and just keep the ball for 70 mins. So I thought I would go do something more interesting....

Both were more interested in putting their hand in the air when Ozil beat them to the ball after giving a 5 metre head start.... They have the turning circle of a mac track, and the pace of a three-toed sloth.

Both feet left the ground for Cahill's sending off: isn't that usually a red card in the Premier League?

It's becuase you lose control of the tackle. Even though Cahill then bent his knees as if trying to pull out, he still landed on the German's leg with lots of his weight. It does look very harsh - a clumsy tackle rather than a malicious one - but if you are looking for consistency, the ref probably made the correct decision.

On the whole, the refereeing has started off at an unusually high standard this tournament, especially the linesmen.

Very impressed with Germany and enjoyed watching them dispatch an ageing and frankly shocking Aussie side - I wasn't expecting much from them but was still expecting a better performance than that. They'll be out after the Ghana game.

Would have been interesting though if they'd taken that chance at 0-0.

Rooney, Gerrard, Lampard, Terry and Cole are all recognized as top european players, Germany don't really have anyone of that calibre at club level who is that effective in the champions league - ballack isn't even there, possibly lahm. Its a mentality issue and the Germans are one million times stronger than we are. If we finished second and they win their group we get them in the next round don't we?

My hunch would be that the English players are slightly over-rated and the Germans slightly under but not to the extent that they're actually better.

I do think they have more of a team ethos - and always have done whenever I've been watching a WC or Euros.

The basis of the side is the older heads that are still fit and a U-21 side that has been somewhat impressive over the last few years. I didn't notice if they had KieBling on the bench - he's like a muscular Peter Crouch. Useful weapon to have.

The two Turks and Mueller were superb - and they're, what, 23, 21 and 21.

I don't think a big win is ever a bad thing really but I'd reserve judgement on Germany - that's there easiest game of the tournament out of the way. Played very well though.

Argentina hammered S&M, Spain also hammered someone 4 or 5 nil.

Argentina were beaten on penalties in the QFs - coach bottled a substitution that all but handed Germany the iniative.
Spain got beaten by France in the 2nd round.

I'll just leave this here, I understand people quoting the likes of Argentina, Spain and what not but they are not the Germans and they should not be underestimated.
