How much is Mr Mad looking to sell RFC for? The last figure I read was £80M, (presumably including his debt?), although I can't now find the link, so I could be talking bollux (pretty much as usual).

Given the size of catchment area, crowds etc, it could be argued we are a similar sized club to Blackburn, albeit a division below, so what sort of offer would make Mr Mad seriously sit down with prospective buyers? Er, and no, I'm not in the market!!

Berkshire and the surrounding areas are by far a greater catchment than Blackburn. Blackburn have to compete with neighbours Bolton and Burnley, Preston.. not to mention Manchester just down the road. Reading's nearest neighbours are over 30 miles away. Blackburn's attendances are pretty awful for a top tier club as well. We might not ever be a big club, but we didn't struggle putting 24,000 bums on seats every week and would easily push to 30,000. As for Madejski's valuation of the club, he's deluded.

1. As committed as ever I'd guess.

2. Less committed than when he thought he might turn a profit.

If the club can survive as a mid to higher level championship team whilst "washing its own face" there's no reason to think JM will want rid. His ambition has always been for the town to have a self-supporting football club.

Selling was about moving on a level. Four years ago he might have put us in the hands of someone with "deep pockets", made a profit himself (£100M was the target iirc) and left us as a secure premiership outfit.

I would hazard a guess that RFC would value around the £20m figure. Minimal debt, the stadium, training ground, hotel, conference centre.. should make Reading an extremely attractive purchase for any potential buyer. I find it baffling that we keep hearing that there has been no interest and yet John Madejski has been actively looking for a buyer, certainly since 2006. (Not to mention the occasional 'guests' he's had sat with him from the Far East) It has to be that he is either valuing the club far too highly, which being the business man that he is is probably true, or there are complications with him wanting to keep the hotel. (couldn't possibly be that he stipulates the stadium name mustn't change..)

Minimal debt, the stadium, training ground, hotel, conference centre.. should make Reading an extremely attractive purchase for any potential buyer. £20m? Seems pretty light to me given all the facilities and potential. If it's £20m you lot had better hope I never win the Euromillions!

Average second tier football club, 24,000 capacity stadium, hotel (if inclusive) and new training ground (unfinished). Plus some debt remaining to John Madejski. I'd be very surprised if Reading Football Club was valued much above the £20m mark. (debt excluded)

Rumour is that the new Blackburn owners will rename Ewood Park to help sell the Blackburn Rovers brand in India. Press release expected Sunday.

I had to laugh today; bearing in mind all the guff we have on HNA? about the club lacking ambition etc (and to be fair, probably on every equivilent website across the country!) Blackburn's new owners, who are India's biggest producer of poultry producst came out with their anbition now their £46M "swoop" seems likely to go ahead.

Their Chairwoman said that they didn't need to invest in expensive players as they could quite easily lease them (maybe she meant loan??) so would be giving Big Sam all the money they think he needs to achieve a position of between 12th and 10th in the Premier league.

And the Blackburn Rovers war-chest.

Get the feeling that they really don't understand what the Premier league is all about??

I think the complications are with the stadium; not the naming ( ) but in the fact that SJM wants to keep it and not include it as part of any sale of RFC. Instead, he would see a recently sold RFC as a tenant in the same way as London Irish are tenants. Not surprisingly, given the experience of other purchasers of football clubs with that situation (Wimbledon and Crystal Palace to name but 2) most would be purchasers walk away.
