Respect FC

Got talking to the lovely lady from the Respect campaign in the Burger King Q, before she paraded around the Stevenage pitch.

She is a volunteer, Woodley based, who got involved after seeing certain parents behaviour at her son's games.

As a manager of a junior girls team within an FA Chartered Club etc. the campaign gives us the tools to set expectations and deal with the occassional issue we get - our League jumps down hard on any team whose parents step out of line.

The local junior and youth leagues have put a huge amount of effort into Respect. It ain't nice to have to watch your kids playing football while a bunch of adults from both teams are screaming abuse at their own kids.

I also wish that team managers would stop positioning themselves all around the pitch and calling out instructions for every kick of the game. The kids don't listen so it is a waste of time. In fact I've seen matches where the kids keep the ball away from the touchline where the manager is standing.

To you last point, one of the 'vocal managers' from one of our other teams was watching my team in a closely fought cup-semi. As I walked past him on the touchline he said 'you're very quiet we are always shouting at our girls'. Then later on he said ' I love the way your girls play the game, passing and commitment'. The connection was not made
Level 1 coaching course is wasted on some!

Team managers in junior/youth matches should get someone to video them during a match. They would probably shut up after viewing the footage back.

Standing 10 feet inside the pitch is another one - why do they do it?

There is nothing in Respect FC which is not just common sense.
