RUMOUR - Matt Tubbs

by retro royal » 01 Aug 2011 14:42

Crawley striker Matt Tubbs has played down rumours linking him with a move into the Championship.
The striker hit 40 goals in 47 appearances last season, helping Steve Evans' side to the Conference title and the fifth round of the FA Cup, where they were narrowly beaten by Manchester United.
The impressive statistics and televised cup clashes brought Tubbs to the attention of a host of clubs, including Reading.
Millwall and Watford have also been linked with the 27-year old most recently, after selling their leading scorers from last season, but Tubbs is concentrating on life in League Two.
He said: "As a player you always hear rumours but that is all they are until something happens. All I can do is keeping playing football, keep trying to score goals and getting in the right places.
"It is not just me that is being linked with other clubs - we have eleven great players going on the pitch every week so everyone is in the window really."

LOL no chance 27 years old only played 8 games in the football league. We cant mold him into a RFC player as development is pretty much over at 27 you would have to deal with what we got. With Manset, Hunt, Church,Willimas, HRK, Bignall - it just wouldn't be worth it even if he was free.

Bignal is gash and wont make it. Church has this season to prove he can score goals at this level before we give up on him. Williams is a punt. Hunt if he can stay fit and Manset are where the goals are at if/when we lose Long.

I think it's only right we look at other strikers. At 27 he still has 8 years in him and yes he could still be developed.

I saw a few conference games last season and in the main the standard was pretty poor compared to what we are used to.

Clearly a good return from a striker but he would have also needed the service from the rest of the team, a team which just so happened to be head and shoulders above anyone else in that league.

Tend to agree that, at 27, what you buy is pretty much all you are going to get. Not the RFC way and wouldn't really want someone stepping up the equivalent of 3 tiers of football at that age.

No thanks, he needs to show he can do it at, at least, League Two level before a Championship club should go in for him at that age.

I would rather a gash 21 year old bignall than a gash 27 year old conference player, Church will get more than one more season to prove himself but is going to be far better than tubbs. Apparently you have met williams and decided he is a punt? But no opinion on him as a footballer? And strikers who can still cut the mustard at the age of 35 in the championship are very few and far between

In essence - Epic fail

Go on?

Brett Williams is a punt. A gamble. It might come off, it might not, and it wont hurt either way.
Bignal is awful. His first touch is terrible and he looked out of place in 2 of the friendlies, according to friends that watched him.
Simon Church is poor up front. This is a big season for him. Time to deliver!
Manset looks promising. I like the look of him. I think he'll start up front with Hunt if Long goes. We'll see.
Noel Hunt is a 15 goals a season striker - key player if we can keep him fit.

He went on loan to Bournemouth a few years ago, if my memory is correct, and didn't do much.

I think they were in League Two at the time too.

I get the feeling if he was up to Championship standard or even League 1 standard he would be playing there already as at the age of 27 that is enough time for people to see what he's all about.

Seen Crawley a few times and he's not championship quality although admittedly he knows where the goal is. He's a league 2 version of Hunt at best.
