£4.00 a pint! Genuine reflection of costs or profiteering?

Went for a half-time beer for the first time this season yesterday. Didn't duck out early, waited until the HT whistle and then walked casually up to the East Stand bar. Was pleasantly surprised to find virtually no queue! I then found out why. £4.00 for a pint of Guinness!

Had a look around to check I wasn't in some swanky London hotel but nope - it was definitely the East Stand concourse of the MadStad! No wonder there was no queue!

a pint is never worth £4, but unless sales drop considerably then the club will continue to sting you for it.

i can probably count on one hand how many pints i've drank at the stadium in the 13 years we've been there, and every pint has left me out of pocket and underwhelmed, and always with a watered down pint.

i'm not sure i'd bother even at £2.

Don't drink Guinness so don't know how much it costs in pubs but as far as the lager goes, £3.50 for a pint is standard so i think the £3.70 or what ever it is at the stadium isnt' bad value considering prices elsewhere.

But the way i see it is, unlike pubs the prices are there for all to see, in bold lettering, unlike pubs which will print their prices on a A4 bit of paper hidden behind a card of bacon fries. It's your choice to pay it, why then buy it, and then moan about it? At the end of the day if you can't go and hour and 45 without a drink then you have a problem

a) Because moaning, just like rubberecking is in our nature.

b) I'd already decided I fancied a pint before realising that it had reached the £4.00 a pint mark (that's got a psychological element to it as well - see a)

So I paid £4.00 for my pint this time; but now I have that information I will bring forward the "I fancy a pint" decision making process and decide not to have one.

The club contract out the catering so have no control over the prices. Saying that though, £4 is an absolute rip off especially when the staff are on minimum wage. Massive markup even if they do have to pay for the sales unit.

Just because an organisation contracts out catering it doesn't mean that it can't maintain some control over prices. Depends how they set up the contract in the first place.

Don't want to act the pcunt but £4 doesn't sound too much to me, what's that about a 50p markup on pub prices?

Of course it's profiteering though, RFC know they have a thirsty crowd who can't go elsewhere for beers but really they could ramp the prices up much higher than this if they wanted to. They'd be a bit daft not to - being a business first and foremost.

£4 might be your psychological limit but I'd wager even at £5 a pint you'd still be queuing 10 minutes for one of the damn things.

And the madness of this situation is that it's in everyone's interest to encourage the use of public transport really - noone likes sitting in traffic or getting runover on the A33.

£4 a pint at a public event ie sport/concert is par for the course. It's always more expensive at these things, just the way is it.
