Programme Covers this Season

I know many of you don't buy the things any more but if you did you may have noticed the covers had a distinctive graphic theme across this season which I thought was very good. On closer inspection I noticed they were knocked up by fellow Nobber Thomas L'Heureux. Well done to him I say. I especially liked the Notts Forest one with the paint effect.

He's also done a skills picture for Jem with flames behind him as he runs. Top work.

Not to knock a nobber, but I thought the designs were fine for a one-off, but looked a bit naff for the whole season.

Particularly on earlier examples, with all the swirly black lines everywhere, it made it look like players were trying to run while entangled in electrical flex.

The players loved them and all asked for theirs to be by Thomas as well. Hence there being many of similar design.

Good exposure for Tom as well who comes across as a decent poster IMHO.

I don't think that style of cover has a shelf-life of more than one season tbh but it's okay across the season.

Not that I buy programmes but I have seen his stuff on FaceyB

Agreed. Last few with the paint splash effects were much better than the earlier go-faster stripes. One season's more than enough though.

Cheers for the feedback (the positive words more so than the negatives, but I'll take both on board! Haha).

When the club asked me to produce artworks for the programme I did voice my concern that my style may not be well-received by your 'typical', or 'traditionalist' football fan, but they were keen to work with me nonetheless and even specified that I maintain my signature style throughout, thus making the covers recognisable and consistent. That is why the lighting effects and 'swirls' featured heavily, especially during the early stages of the season.

At times I had very little time to produce the works inbetween games, so I'll admit that the quality did dip once or twice. However, the players were all very keen for me to produce pieces for them and some have even been in contact with me to produce images for them outside of the club.

Ahh good yeah the below cover as I say was my favourite. I also liked the ones during winter where the players had like ice coming off them, and the FA Cup one. I think it's good the Club gave you a lot of artistic freedom and that your style is distinctive. Got any more footy work lined up?

You see, the main reason I tried to steer clear of creating images with a lot of texture is because the programme covers are printed on glossy paper. The texture of the background and the rough, almost organic feel of the paint looks really strange when printed with a gloss, almost sheen-like, finish. I'm all about matt myself, and when I sell prints of my work I always specify that paper.

I've got a few pretty big sports-related projects in the pipeline, but at the moment I'm not able to divulge on the clients unfortunately.

Cheers pal. I've absolutely no idea to be honest, as the concentration has been focused on getting this season over with first. However, I have no idea who produced the cover for the supplmentary programme that was available on Saturday (depicting McAnuff with champaign). Maybe somebody in-house has been honing their skills ready for next season.

For what it's worth, I'm keen to move forward with the style of the recent work I produced for Karacan, which has more of an illustrative, almost graphic novel-esque feel to it.
