Name that tune

by BenReadingFC » 04 Jul 2012 01:34

I read this http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-18673916 and it got me thinking about where football chants originate.
Most are linked to a song in some way or another.
The White Stripes - Seven Nation Army seemed to be the chant for Euro 2012
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=22whIBYWr7I
Also the same rift for
"You're in Administration"

There are many chants that are easily recognised to their original beginnings such as

oxf*rd off Mark McGhee
Oh what can it be
To a fat Scottish bastard
and a shit football team

Which is
Monkees - Daydream Believer
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=okQe_lmM8OI&t=2m7s

Or
Boom Boom Boom, Let me hear you say Swales, Swales
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WqHQ_wWbG9Y&t=0m45s

I thought it would be interesting to link the Reading chants to the original songs from which they came.
Go to Youtube, Find the chants original song. Note down the time that it starts. Copy the Youtube address for the song,
Then go here
http://youtubetime.com/
Paste the web address and then input the time noted and post the resulting link back here.

Good idea, although I fear it may just highlight how boring our repetoire of songs really is.

Some of the proper old chants come from hymns, such as "you're not singing anymore" comes from "bread of heaven".

One of our more inventive offerings in recent years IMO.

Should be sung far more often.
