No royalty points for fans who dont go!

So we are playing Darlington a week Tuesday. Its cheap to get in and you get 20 royalty points.

I find it frustrating though that people are prepared to buy the tickets and not bother going, just to get the royalty points.

To stop this i reckon the club should only add the royalty points to the persons member card account once they have entered the Madejski Stadium.

We might end up selling 15,000 tickets for next Tuesday and have only 7,500 there!

I do actually, as it's a mockery of the whole system.

Genuine fans who are interested in watching a game of football will most probably buy a ticket for the reason of going ot the game, not to tactically put themselves in a more prominent and stronger position to buy tickets for the "big" games.

Exactly my point (almost). I cant see where 'fans' get royalty/loyalty points for buying tickets and not going; surely its the same as not buying them and not going

Consider 5 Royalty points for an away game...

So £8/4= £2.

20 points/4=5 points.

It's £2 for as many points as we'll get for going to Newcastle, so for people that need the points it is worth it...

I bought a ticket for the Feyenoord game, even though I was attending a wedding. That cost me £16, which is equivalent of probably less than 5% of money I spent going to away games last season, and seemed like a sensible investment to keep my royalty points at a higher level than those who don't go to away games, but turn up for a pointless friendly. As for Darlo, I bought a ticket, and will be going, interested to see some of the new boys play.

I doubt the club cares that much whether people turn up or not, just so long as they've got their hands on their money.

Mind you, wouldn't be surprised if after everyone has bought their ticket the club has a last minute change of mind and undertakes another quick shift of the goal posts by announcing only those who actually attend the game will get the points they thought they had already bought!

The club have killed what was initially a decent system.

They won't be bothered if half the tickets aren't used, the only thing that will cause concern is that those non-attendees won't be spending money on food etc whist they sit at home counting their cheap points.

If you have a kid that can't go because it's a school night then paying the £1 ticket price to get her/him 20 Royalty points is still a bargain, Just remember to swipe his/her card in as well as your own.

It's unlikely real fans will miss out on tickets due to phantom fans buying up all the seats.

I know a Man United fan who bought the tickets on General sale, and is giving his Charlton tickets to a charity so some underpriveliged kids can go.

I'm sure there won't be a huge amount of seats bought but not used.

In order to put yourself in a strong position to buy tickets for the big games you'll surely need to be a genuine fan who has attended most games anyway? "Buying" the points now just helps secure the chance of a higher tier, which everyone has to guess at as there is no indication on when or how tiers are set.

The loyalty points have always been about business not assessing how loyal fans are though, that's why they offer bonus points for going to/donating money to the club for a game that doesn't attract enough people on its own merits. If it assessed loyalty not money then it would have to be the same number of points for every game, home and away.
