Scoreboard - One for STAR maybe ?

Can someone tell me why the scorboard timer counts down as opposed to up. In the early years of the Madejski it used to count upwards, thus meaning you can see how long has gone in injury time.

Anyone else agree it should revert back to counting upwards ? I know it happens on all scoreboards throughout the country, but why ?! This really really pisses me off.

It's probably to stop fans getting cross when the ref is trying to get a team a goal by adding more and more additional time. Similarly, they didn't used to say "...a minimum of X minutes injury time"

Yes, I do actually. In the past the club have said, on more than one occasion that they are unable to have the clock count up because of league regulations. I beliebve that answer has also been relayed back through STAR/a fans forum. As for clubs that ignore the regulation, Wycombe immediately springs to mind.

And no, I'm not going to trawl through HNA to find threads where this has been covered before but I'm confident that it has been, just as it was also debated on RoyalMail.

I was referring to the fact that RFC have claimed it is against the regulations to have the clock count up - not that any clubs have their clocks run past 45 minutes. But thanks for adding further evidence that other clubs do ignore this regulation if it does exist.

Of course it is typical of the old farts that run the game that they would even contemplate such a regulation. Clearly they've never heard of wrist watches that have stop watches, thus enabling thousands of fans to keep track of how long has been played anyway!

This was brought a few seasons ago and RB is right that it was attributed to a FA regulation. I'm pretty sure it's so that there is less controversy over refs application of injury time.

Same reason that they can't show replays of contentious issues - in case it inflames the crowd. Can you imagine what could happen if the board shows 2 mins and a winning goal is scored against the home side with the clock showing 93:24 for example.

In this day and age I'm sure it's technically possible for the scoreboard to show both a count down timer and a count up one, just to keep everyone happy.

Whether that's against the rules or not I don't know.

Maybe the simple solution for Legend and others is to wear a watch as that counts up.

Time added on is the minimum time.

The ref aint gonna blow up ten minutes after the allocated time is he, unless he wants a riot
