The Rec is a timewarp. not a lot has changed since we used to have to play them in the 80's.
I have mixed feelings about their revival....supporting Reading FC all my life but now living on the doorstep of The Rec
Half of me is glad they're back in the league. It increases the chances of getting to play them in a cup.
For lots of younger fans, Aldershot will never be considered a rival for Reading. For slightly older ones like me, they always will be.
The other half of me hopes they over-spend/fcuk up financially and go bust again. Or at the very least get relegated and slip back into non-league obscurity. That would amuse me no end.
Hopefully they'll never be a real local rival for us again, but you never know. By this i mean i hope we're never at their level again.
The longer you go without regularly playing them the less the rivalry becomes.
It's fair to say that our fortunes have gone in different directions in the last 16 years since they wnet bust. It's important to remember that what happened to The Shots could easily have happened to us without JM.
So Congrats on coming back from the dead and fingers crossed for a favourable cup-draw next season.
