Mick Gooding to tone down his accent?

Can anyone at BBCRB confirm something that a few of us have heard which is that Mick Gooding has been asked to tone down his accent to sound more local?

May sound ridiculous but a few of us here know some at BBCRB quite well and all the talk over the past few days has been of this request. Apparently they have received a few complaints from people not happy to hear a Geordie as an RFC commentator and so have asked him to try and sound more local. He is reported to be (understandably) unhappy with this but when faced with a choice of changing his accent or potentially losing his job he has agreed to it.

You would struggle to get anyone more pro Reading FC than Mick Gooding even with his Geordie accent!

Presumably the same people will also be petitioning for the removal from office of Kevin Dillon!

How can they ask MG to tone down his accent for the masses? Then employ every scottish weather presenter going, on both national TV and radio?

It would seem that it is a "pre-requisit" to have a Scottish accent to get a job presenting anything on the beeb, especially on News24

And besides MG is a geordie.....how do they expect him to speak?
