... I can't help think that we hve missed a trick. Both Aston Villa and Sheffield Wednesday have "donated" shirt sponsorship to local charities in return for NO financial renumeration. Considering that Sheff Wed are some £30m in debt makes it an extra-ordinary gesture. I think it is a shame that Reading FC plc have not considered such a move themselves and would much rather grab hold of a few £,000 for whatever reason going. It would also give out a clear signal that the club really is committed to the community in which it resides.

Sheffield Wednesday donated their shirt sponsorship to a charity after they failed to find a company willing to pay what they wanted. So rather than lower their demands they donated it.

We have a local company who want to promote their brand around country by investing in our football club. As they are a local company it is still supporting the community if it helps them grow their business.

If we had a charity as a shirt sponsor it would probably mean ST prices would be increased to cover some of the loss...as a result I am more than happy for waitrose to pump some cash into the club...selfish maybe...

I think the club is missing a trick. The amount of good publicity in the media is quite something and I would have thought that our Chairman would be interested in that. Bearing in mind that charities are suffering more than most in this current bank-led recession...

Two problems with that:

1) If we had a charity as a sponsor we would not be giving them money, just their name on our shirts.
2) Waitrose are not getting free advertising - they are paying for it.
