At the time of writing Reading Town lead the Hellenic Premier Division by seven points and are in a healthy position to win promotion to the Southern Football League. This is just two levels away from the Conference South Division where Maidenhead United, Basingstoke Town and non-league giants Woking currently ply their trade.

I've always held an interest in the non-league game and have visited a few of the local sides down the years. However I've never visited Town's Scours Lane ground as they always appeared to be comfortable mid-table finishers with little or no ambition. However this season has seen an upturn in their fortunes and they have recently been pleading for more support in the local press.

This would appear to be a bandwagon waiting to be boarded, so I'm jumping on feet first! Myself and a few like minded season ticket holders will be attending the Lane this weekend (Saturday 20th February) as Town take on Highworth Town. The Royals are away on business way up north, so its an ideal opportunity.

So if you have no plans for this Saturday and don't fancy the expensive journey to sunny Blackpool, get yourself down to Tilehurst. Its just £6 to get in, free parking aplenty and there's not much of a queue for a beer. You even have the option to sit or stand! Good honest football and the chance to support the town's other football club.

ive got more and more into non league in the last few years, courtesy of Maidenhead Utd.

But Reading Town? no thanks. to me thats like a Stoke fan going to watch Port Vale.

Hardly? - its a local side that have never (and probable never will be) a rival to Reading or even play each other (bar friendlies)

Its easy to get to, its local and does the town good!

I've seen all the local sides around east berks over the last 2/3 season except Reading Town so I might drop in for a game this season.

They need to install two new turnstyles and install 100 additional seats. It would be fantastic to see fellow RFC fans down there on saturday supporting their cause. A town the size of Reading should have a decent semi-professional football club playing at a strong level.
