I'm fairly sure I'm right in saying that we are the only professional football club in Berkshire. All the others will either be part-time or amateur. The only other pro team in the B&B FA would be Wycombe Wanderers.Sun Tzu wrote:I'd agree it would be good for us to enter, in fact it should be a matter of pride !
Although not sure it is right to say we are the only professional side in the county. The only football league side perhaps, or the only full timers, but there are loads of teams in Berkshire who pay their players to play and of course there are other pro teams within the B&B Fa area.
Are you wilfully missing the Franchisees out?Stuffed Crust Pizza wrote: I'm fairly sure I'm right in saying that we are the only professional football club in Berkshire. All the others will either be part-time or amateur. The only other pro team in the B&B FA would be Wycombe Wanderers.
I stand corrected! Rather begrudginly I'd have to include MK Dons in the list of professional clubs affiliated to the B&B FA. However I will never recognise them personally.prostak wrote:Are you wilfully missing the Franchisees out?Stuffed Crust Pizza wrote: I'm fairly sure I'm right in saying that we are the only professional football club in Berkshire. We only won it 3 times?Stuffed Crust Pizza wrote:If I remember correctly we ceased to enter our County FA's primary competition due to players picking up injuries against overzealous part-timers. However as the counties only professional club, I feel its our duty to give something back to grass-roots football in the area and give other teams the opportunity of a big pay day against a Reading XI. I'd certainly join any campaign to get us back in the competition as I look back on our mid-90's success at Adams Park with a nostalgic tear in my eye.
Come on Brian, get in touch with the FA and get us booked in! Perhaps we might even get our hands on some silverware...
"We won it three times,
we won it three timesss.
The Berks & Bucks Cup.
We won it three times!"
Hmmm. I also seem to remember a deeply embarrassing afternoon out at Aylesbury.....Stuffed Crust Pizza wrote:I look back on our mid-90's success at Adams Park with a nostalgic tear in my eye.
I certainly did ask him why we didn't enter, and he wasn't sure why. However he said he would definately look into re-entering because, as I pointed out to him, it was "only" 4 games and we could feasibly play a youthful reserve team in it, as well as players on the way back from injury. Just a couple of suggestions, and he definately said he would look into it.RG30 wrote:I believe handbags_harris asked Brian McDermott at the last STAR fans forum, with a positive response to report.
We only entered it twich though.Messiah wrote:We only won it 3 times?

Didn't we win the Premiership Reserve League (or was it the Cup ?) in successive seasons ?Fox Talbot wrote:I don't think we've ever retained a trophy in our history - that is win something 2 yrs running. Not even the B&B!
Apart from manager of the year which doesn't count.
I'm sure we won something twice !Stranded wrote:We only won the Prem Reserve League the once.
