Well yes, the fact this is outright tabloid journalism is what makes it all the more ridiculous a story.

The mail at least usually attempts a veneer of respectability.

I echo the sentiments above. I genuinely didn't think my opinion of the Mail could get any lower, but astonishingly they have managed it. Such a spiteful, vindictive and crass publication. An embarrassment.

Quite why they think it is in the "national interest" to entrap the leader of the World Cup bid, and ruin any chance we had of winning it, is beyond me. Utter utter c@nts.

For what it's worth everything I've heard has pointed towards Russia winning anyway, but this is the proverbial nail in the coffin.

This story has been floating a round the blogosphere for a little while and was bound to be picked up and printed sooner or later - the big issue was that DT had shown signs of standing up to the PL within the FA, and so the knives were well and truly out for him. If it hadn't been this it would have been something else.

It's ll part of the big political battle for the soul and control of football that's going on, and this is a big victory in it for the PL. A sad day indeed.
