Following a technical problem with the software of an external service provider that instructs the officials as to which teams are eligible to play each other, a material error occurred in the draw for the UEFA Champions League Round of 16.

Shambles.
Villereal. They can't draw United, who were in their group, but it went wrong, and they did. Organisers got around this by then leaving the United ball out of Pot 1 altogether, which means that by default United got placed with the last Pot 2 team to be drawn, which was PSG.

Real Madrid apparently asked for the draw only the be re-done from the error (i.e. after they drew Benfica), but UEFA say it is fairest to start again.

I really like the idea that UEFA (or, governing bodies in general) are so shambolic that they need some 'software' to tell them which teams can't play each other under their own rules.

Seems to me they could simplify the draw a little by removing the rule that says teams from the same country can't play each other, from the R16 draw.

It still shouldn't be too difficult but understand it is ex footballers making the draw and UEFA running things.
