No, but having them or City (and Portsmouth) competing is only ever a good thing.Kes wrote:Villa wont win the Premier League though.cmonurz wrote:Carew has 6 goals in 20 games for Villa. Jury is very much still out, although he appears to have hit some good form.
I accept the sentiment of your post wholeheartedly but I think you'll find that, should that happen, money will have been spent in the process. You mention United, Arsenal & Chelsea. Haven't Liverpool, Man City and Spurs spent as much?Ideal wrote:I'd like to see another team than ManU, Arsenal or Chelsea win it.
It would bring a long overdue sense of equality, a feeling that it wasn't all about money after all.
Although it probably won't happen, it would be nice if it did.
Which they have:cmonurz wrote:You forget - Liverpool's league challenege is over, despite going above United if they win their game in hand, and Arsenal will choke, cos the weather is going to get cold, or something. And Chelsea are apparently an irrelevance, despite their good form under Grant. Oh, and any United defeat is affordable. The Three Bears wrote:So the recent run of Tottenham, Blackburn, Liverpool away and United at home wasn't tough then?Katie Marsden wrote:Well done for taking my comments about Arsenal out of context. The tough run of games starts now. Trips to Newcastle, Boro, Villa, Everton and Pompey in the next 6 weeks and homes games against Chelsea and Spurs. We shall see what they're made of and where they lie in January when the real title race starts.
Boro and Newcastle are hardly going to be two defeats are they? Arsenal will struggle at Villa on Saturday but you would fancy them to still be top on Christmas Day. If they're 1 or 2 points behind United come then they would still be happy seeing as though their entire starting XI cost around the same as one Rio Ferdinand.
There is (or was) a big Irish Pub right in the centre of Antwerp called (if memory serves) Celtic Ireland - they show lots of sport.cmonurz wrote:I'm sure alad predicted Liverpool would be out of it by October. Great to have so many teams in it as we approach Xmas. In bloody Belgium on 16th, so will be finding an appropriate bar for the afternoon.

I recall suggesting that with the signings of Torres and Babel, Liverpool should challenge, and adding Gerrard, Mascherano and an improving Benayoun to that, Liverpool are right where I expected them to be. Best defence in the league now, and scoring goals too. Absence of stupid home draws with Birmingham and West Ham would have put them closer to Arsenal.Katie Marsden wrote:Arsenal with their best win of the season IMO. Tough away with a few key players missing and they get the result.

Both United and Liverpool will be pleased with their seasons so far. United bouncing back from a terrible start, they were 5 behind Liverpool after 3 games, now they're level after 14 games. Liverpool ground out results when they weren't playing well and are now scoring for fun. Both sides have also had terrible injuries to contend with. People forget Liverpool have been without Kewell for most of the season, Alonso for 8 weeks, Agger for 10 weeks and Torres for 4 weeks. While United have missed Neville for the entire season, Rooney for 8 weeks, Saha for 8 weeks, Hargreaves for 10 weeks and Carrick for 6 weeks.
Liverpool will have faced Chelsea, United and Arsenal at home by mid December and will have to travel away to said teams after Christmas, I don't think they've made the most of those home games and it could prove costly. Their away record against those teams under Benitez is played 9 lost 9. They desperately need to beat United at Anfield.
The title race looks like it will be a lot more interesting than last season anyway.
Since when have Chelsea been in a re-building phase?Kes wrote:Suprisingly Liverpool aren't above Chelsea. Considering Chelsea are in a re-building phase.
You said the same thing last season and the season before. No doubt you'll be wrong again come May. WishfuLOL thinkingVictor Meldrew wrote:Since when have Chelsea been in a re-building phase?Kes wrote:Suprisingly Liverpool aren't above Chelsea. Considering Chelsea are in a re-building phase.
BTW Chelsea are ahead of Liverpool because they have played one more game and, unless you didn't know,by the end of the season all teams will have played the same number of games.
IMHO Chelsea and Man Utd will fight out the 3rd and 4th spots.
