It's the way of the Reading fan m8. As a group we just love to complain. Can you believe that there was a group of Facebook users who actually blamed me for our poor start to the season, suggesting that our form was terrible since we'd employed this new programme designer (i.e. me), etc. Despite the fact it was probably said tongue in cheek it still shows the mentality of our fanbase.

I've received praise from supporters of other clubs and have even been contacted by other teams in The Championship about the possibility of putting something in place for next season, so the odd groan here and there from our supporters goes unheard to be honest.

No idea pal. It would be great to do them in the Prem, and a lot more manageable given the decrease in fixtures and the more comfortable match schedule.

Couldn't agree more! I hope they stick with you next season. I know other clubs have been complimentary of the programme covers as well, so it would be a shame to lose your art work.

Agreed I think Tom has done a great job this season with covers. I would however like to see something different next season. No disrespect but I'd like to go back to more traditional photographic style as they were getting a bit similar.

Love the covers and it's great for the club to support an illustrative style when it is far more instant putting a photo on the jacket cover. It's a debate which most publishers attempt to divert away from with regard to a possible time consuming illustrations. Overall I think the movement is captured brilliantly but then I have a natural leaning to the more hands on graphic style shown. They have offered up debate so all is good.

TBH, I really liked them this season, especially the 'paint' ones for the last few games.
Would like the programmes to have a matte finish though, like how London Irish has (or had - not been to a game this season).

To be honest it's just a case of different people having different preferences.

Maybe younger fans - which is anyone too young to remember Tucker Jenkins on Grange Hill in my book, prefer something which looks a little "edgy"

To be honest it's just a case of different people having different preferences.

Think the last few covers were really nice, much prefer that illustration style to the early ones. As TL'H says, they'd look an awful lot better on an uncoated stock, but that's never going to be practical for the amount they must print.

Pretty sure the design of the programme changes each year as it is, my view is that the covers should move on too. FWIW, I'd be quite happy for them to not bother with action shots for another season and see another illustrator given a chance. Really liked Rex's 8th day Brian banner, portraits of the players in that style could really work.

I'm a tradionalist about programme covers. I love the old 50's style of progamme particularly ones that relate to the local area and history. I love the Derby and Port Vale progammes from that era. Also the Ajax caricature progammes from the 70's.

However, times have moved on, and in a sea of glossy magazines your covers stand out. Probably the first time for several years I'd be able to pick a Reading programme out from any of the others at a glance.

Definitely gives an individualistic touch to them. Put me in the "like" camp.

He thought that was pretty cool for a few seconds.
