Due to a landslip the line remains blocked between Banbury and Leamington Spa. Chiltern Railways trains are running between: - London Marylebone and Banbury - Leamington Spa and Birmingham Moor Street - Leamington Spa and Stratford Upon Avon. Rail replacement buses are running between Banbury and Leamington Spa. Passengers travelling between London and the West Midlands may use Virgin Trains and London Midland services between London Euston and Birmingham New Street. Chiltern Railways tickets will be valid on these services, and on London Underground connections between Marylebone and Euston. The line will remain closed between Banbury and Leamington Spa until Monday 9 February. Similar arrangements will apply.

Looks like buses then. Your ticket will still be valid, but would suggest everyone going allows plenty of time as apocalyptic scenes of chaos, carnage and destruction will inevitably occur.

Lots of cross-ticket acceptance in place on "any reasonable route", so if you've already bought a Cross Country ticket you should be able to use it via London (Reading > Paddington > Euston > Wolves) - takes about 3h 20m.

On the Saturday when it happened the disruption page specifically st8ed that Cross Country ticket holders could travel via First Great Western services to Bristol Temple Meads and change onto Cross Country services from there. It's gone now, but If that's considered a "reasonable route" it's only one change, doesn't involved dicking about through London and there's a half-decent pub on Template Meads station

Assuming it is a "reasonable route", trains back after the game are 18:17 (arr 21:48) and 20:17 (arr 23:46).

a few years ago we all went to the Goal Post, right by the away end. Official away pub, but had a few home fans in. No bother at all. Ditto after the game, even though we won

Is that the only other alternative route? Just that I'm working Saturday morning and will only get to Reading station about 11:30 so will not give me a lot of flexibility time wise.
