That's an obvious choice but one I very much agree with nonetheless. Saw him pre-season at Hibernian Barca and he was immense. I have never seen anything like it and I don't remember him being dispossessed once (albeit he did only play the first half in a friendly).

Growing up late 80's, early 90's my footballing hero without a shadow was Gascoigne. Fun, personable, proper talent. It’s just a damn shame...

Also worthy of mention Hoddle, Waddle and Allen. Everyone had a 2nd team during their teenage years.

Favourite European player - Baggio.

Favourite World player - Antonio Careca. From 1984 to 1991 Napoli were almost unbeatable, Careca in the later part of this era was an influential as Maradona. Better than 90's Milan IMO.

As I'm one of the young'uns, I can't see past Bergkamp. I saw him several times live, as well as on the telly for 10+ years and some of his touches and vision were outstanding.

As a shining example of professionalism, I reluctantly say Ryan Giggs. As much as I've disliked ManUre in the past, you can't help but respect them. Everything they've won in the last 15 years has had Ryan Giggs at the core.

I watched Christian Poulsen a few times and I think he's one of the dirtiest, toughest players I've ever watched. There is a certain poetry in his thuggery.

Ditto except 'Poulsen' is substituted for 'Materazzi' in my book. There's a video of one of his fouls on YouTube which is deemed unsuitable for minors his battles with Shevchenko are hilarious as well, Shevchenko resembles a startled cat every time Materazzi comes near him (which invariably results in a foul) before he finally snaps and retaliates.

Mine would probably be Glenda Hoddle. The sheer effortlessness & grace of his playing was always a pleasure to watch - unless he had an England shirt on, when he'd be mostly anonymous.
