you've ever seen, forget tribalism etc just an unashamed view of players you saw and or admired.
For me, (yes it's an age related thing by definition) but I've yet to see a more composed player than,
Bobby Moore, god rest him!

Probably, prior to his injury in the 1991 cup final, Paul Gascoigne. I saw him a lot in the late 80's/very early 90's and he was the finest player I've seen play.

The player I admire the most, again this is only from my years watching the game, is Pat Jennings. IMHO the best goalkeeper of all time.

Probably my favourite ever player was Tommy Harmer (Spurs and Watford) who could bend it before Beckham was even thought of( as of course could most Brazilians,Maradonna and Zola).
Of the slightly more modern era King Kenny.

This will probably be quite a common answer amongst us younger posters, but Zinedine Zidane really is a cut above anyone else I've seen play. Even at the age of 34 he was completely bossing the tournament before his memorable sending off for what is one of the greatest headbutts I have seen - he even managed to make that look like genius - in 2006.

Domestically, Eric Cantona had a big impact on the game's 'Premiership generation' in my opinion.

Some of my favourite players are some of the worst I've ever seen.

For example, Mellberg and Ostlund, at the heart of the Swedish defence in 2004 or thereabouts, simply for their sheer exuberant beardiness. And the fact that you wouldn't ever have argued with them.

I enjoyed every minute of the games that Austrian who we were linked to played at Euro '08 because he was genuinely, terribly awful.

I watched Christian Poulsen a few times and I think he's one of the dirtiest, toughest players I've ever watched. There is a certain poetry in his thuggery.

Miroslav Klose, given his sheer unadulerated averageness and the fact that he looks like he should have a tache (seriously - his face cries out for facial hair), scores goals for fun.

Having had a fair few visits with my uncle to Upton Park when I was younger, I would have to say Paolo Di Canio. The guy just screamed arrogance and was a first class entertainer at heart.

I have to go for Stuart Pearce.

Not the most talented player ever but always gave absolutely everything in every game he was playing - no matter how important/unimportant. It's a cliché but he really would "die for the cause"

Also because he so clearly wore his heart on his sleeve all the time - even in his brief spell as a manager he lived every second of the game.

Given that I want to see the passion and commitment that is key to the English game - and not these fancy-dan, candy-floss and lightweight continentals with their clever little tricks - Pearce is definitely the player for me.
