Fair enough if he wants to give something back to the community. Which I hope means he builds a new stadium, new training/leisure facilites for public use, sets up camps/schools for kids, builds new facilities at the university etc. And links these to the football club somehow.

Instead of just buying loads of players so Bangor win the league for a few years, Im not sure how that gives something back to the community.

True, when you think of the work Madejski has done outside of the football club and within the community. Really does deserve his knighthood.

Not sure how relevant the comparisons to Gretna are. Gretna were elevated to a position way beyond their resources and infrastructure by Mileson's money. Bangor are already playing at a high level within the Welsh league system. Domination of the League of Wales is a very reasonable and attainable aim, and I can't see them going the same way as Barry Town. I just hope he doesn't go mad and provide them with a budget way out of proportiion to the rest of the league as it would kill the League of Wales. I hope it is a truly philanthropic guesture and he has reasonable expectations of what the club can achieve.

Why would he feel the need to do that? As a foreigner I presume he payed for his tuition plus I doubt if any of the lecturers were from the Bangor area. That's a rubbish reason.

He got his leg over? A girl from Carlow once allowed me to penetrate her when I was desperately in need of opportunity and I have had a 'soft spot' for the place ever since.

Been to see Bangor City quite a few times as my wife and her family come from there..

Bangor were in the English non league pyramid system for a number of years until joining the League of Wales in the 90s. They did not join the LoW straight away after it was formed but continued to play in the Unibond Premier until for financial reasons they took a cash incentive to join the LoW that was too good for them to turn down when they were in a bad way financially.

Their crowds have gone from c.2,000 when in the Alliance Premier (predecessor to the Conference) in the 70s and 80s gradually down to 400 or so in the last couple of years in the LoW (which actually makes them one of the best supported clubs in their league!).

They regularly played in the Conference and Unibond Premier, along side Wigan and Macclesfield.

They were due to sell their current ground Farrar Road, in the middle of the city to Tescos and build a new 5,000 seater stadium on the edge of the city but due to the downturn this appears to have fallen down.

Famous recent managers have been Peter Davenport and Graeme Sharpe, and last time I saw them they had Clayton Blackmore in midfield!

If they were to re-enter the pyramid I would imagine it would be at Unibond Div 1 level and be back playing my local team Colwyn Bay!

Many of their fans wish they had not joined the LoW in the first place but the cash being offered and a route to European football was too great to turn down..

Great club with a proud history including European matches against some of the giants, proper ground including wooden main stand!

I watch alot of Welsh Premier and Bangor are one of few teams with 'real' support.

It even kicks off on the terraces between Rhyl and Bangor. Great entertainment!

Who is your LoW team of choice Thames?

Bangor v Rhyl has always had a bit of needle to it...North Wales derby etc and they both used to play in the English pyramid against each other before the LoW too!

I know of someone from Caernarfon (who again are rivals with Bangor) who used to go with his Bangor City supporting mates in the 80s to games at Rhyl and he said it was one of the best games to go to for "atmosphere" !! He is a mad keen Evertonian season ticket holder who has been all over Europe watching them but would have missed an Everton match in a heart beat to go to Bangor v Rhyl!!

Bangor always used to keep a specially warm welcome for Barry Town before they went and presumably now do so for Llanelli instead. It's a North v South thing!

Llanelli are my team mate. Been to watch em in the Europa League this season against Motherwell already this season.

To be honest though, I just want the league to progress. Better grounds, better players and get some half decent results in Europe.

The league goes down to 12 teams next season which I think is a good thing. Will get rid of Welshpool and Caersws with thier Sunday League pitches.

Saw the Motherwell game on Sgorio / S4C. I thought Llanelli did amazingly well in the away leg but were too easily rolled over in the home game. Were they missing any key players in the return?

Are they going to be using that new Scarlets ground for all their league fixtures or was it just for Europa League? Bangor had to play at the Racecourse (60 plus miles away) as Farrar Road does not come up to European requirements any more...

Presume you also saw Rhyl getting a tonking at home to Partizan Belgrade on Sgorio?!

It was a full strength Llanelli they just looked abit unfit to me. Bowen was on the bench.

Llanelli will remain at Stebonheath Park for thier league fixtures, it is UEFA compliant but they moved it to Parc Y Scarlets due to a large away following from Motherwell.

I watched both legs of the Rhyl game and they really dissapointed me. They lost alot of players from last season and didn't replace them in time. Also, alot of goals came from silly mistakes.
