Footballers are about as homophobic as you can get.

Not that surprising thought is it? They're mainly working class men of 18-35 with a lower than average education and probably not the most enlightened approach to life.

I think the only part of society (and I mean that age/background grouping) which would be more homophobic are the 60+ and religious nuts.

I don't get why footballers should be any different than their peers in any other walk of life where racism and homophobia are pretty prevalent.

But frankly the PFA and football community generally has been absolutely PATHETIC in showing any solidarity with the presumably numerous gay footballers. It is sad isn't it that there are people out there having to actively hide their lifestyles because there so many pcunts who this world that think it okay to throw abuse at them

if it were just their colour, id probably say yes though, its not actually worse at all- its the baggage of centurys of slavery murder and exploitation that makes it worse than chanting at a tubby/ginger player.

i fail to see why there is a massive difference between teasing due to any of those physical qualitys and blackness/gayness, other than those listed above.

Question 1 - depends on if the player has the emotional and mental strength to deal with it so Yes and No

When Gareth Thomas came out, most of the Rugby community reacted with "So what?"

If an international footballer came out, expect terrace chants aplenty, a la Sol. Hence the segregation.....much as I love football, the small-minded mentality of some fans give it a bad name. And it ain't gonna change anytime soon.

But rugby was a game devised purely so that public schoolboys could sniff each others' bottoms. Latent homosexuality is integral to the game. That's why League broke away. No rucking and mauling and very few scrums. Nothing to do with money.
