Surprisingly, no mention from London Irish on their OS. They may well pay rent, but you would have thought they would annouce about it on their OS

Why, because it means they can hire just one stand for their games!

What I'm slightly in the dark about is what they are going to do about the hill behind the East and South stands. The road that is already there is going to be built over, so where are the new pathways going to be? They can't go back much further even if they levelled out the slope becuase of the retail park....

Overlapping bridge style walkway? Supported underneath by structs that go back into the ground of the mad stad at 45 degrees? If that makes sense!

They could also make the road/path a bit smaller and the concourse a bit bigger if they done this....

I can only imagine that it might be of similar design to the East Stand at Old Trafford in that it is a separate tier but does not over hang the one below

For comparison, there's a reasonable aerial view of the current stadium at http://www.intosport.co.uk/acatalog/Reading.html. From the sketches it looks like the backs of the new stands would go out to about the line of the existing road.

And if all goes ahead as planned we'll end up with one of the largest grounds in the country. 12th if my figures are correct.

There are now some PDF documents up on the official site that clear up the whole one/two tier, concourse size questions. In short, extension to the single tier with an upper concourse. Seating in a full bowl, no missing corners, although the bowl will be lower in the corners. Offices & restaurants under the new concourse it seems.

Oh, and definitely no new car parking ... apparently the A33 wouldn't cope.

From the timeline on the pdf file part 3, The ground will not be completed untill December 2008 with the East stand being the last to be completed.

If I'm not mistaken the old speeway/greyhound stadium forms part of the Southside development which will have a walkway/cycle bridge over the A33 connecting the site currently being developed at Kennet Island to the area now housing the speedway stadium with more office/retail space and a Park & Ride station....well, that's what the plan looks like....

So no new parking as such...which kind of goes with the plans being submitted for the expansion. More buses & discounted for ST holders and of course the train station which will open around the same time the East stand is completed at the end of 2008.

I guess for about 3-4 years we're going to have to get used to alot of development in the area inc the M4 Jct 11 works but once done will be well worth it!

I wonder if there will be any local opposition to these plans. Although I do not know the area that well, are there any houses between the stadium and the old A33. If not I can't imagine anyone would have any real objection.
