Wow. Genuinely shocked by this. Yes, the Man City job gave him a reputation, but he was so solid, calm, composed as a Reading boss, I thought he'd moved on from that and expected him to do as good a job at City. Sounds like his head just isn't in it.

Best of luck to him, as a Reading legend, in whatever he does in the future, football management is worse off without him.

Tbh, I loved him so much as our manager that I was dreading having to see him back at the Mad Stad with a new team. So this has worked out well for me
Maybe he realised too late that he was better off being a pundit, without any of the stress etc, and it probably pays him well enough not to have to worry too much about money.

Heard a very strong rumour from a good source that he was rather p*ssed off a couple of weeks ago when the Chairman signed James without his knowledge. Therefore, I don't blame Coppell one bit - Nobody wants a meddling Chairman.
