the 6month ban is but thats not quite the reason.

Queiroz apparently wanted the players to be tested weeks before the tournament started. Instead they were tested nearly less than a week before thier opening game in south africa by the FPF. Not only that they turned up at 11pm!!! Quieroz was livid and tbh probably did get verbally aggressive as he's done it before to a well respected portuguese pundit over there. Initially he was suspended for 1month but now it looks like its been extended by the FPF again.

To be fair, he has a point. You must give them plenty of time before a tournament, so that they have time to dose up on their drugs before the tournament starts. If they waited until the last week and then took all their drugs after that, they could harm themselves.

If they are not taking anything illegal, then they shouldn’t care when they get tested! Providing the test are done legally, they should be prepared to be tested at any time. If people are allowed to choose when they are tested, they will clearly make sure that the drugs are masked/out of their system at that time.

I think he is lucky to get a 6 month ban. If that had been anyone managing our national team, the press would wreck his life and he would surely be fired.

True but the timing was poor. The FPF expect a lot from the Portuguese National team (too much IMO) and for them to turn up so close to their opening game halting preperations is quite daft.

Whilst I agree in principle to player's getting tested at random, it does seeem a bit much to be testing at 11pm. Why couldn't they come the next morning or a few hours earlier?

Much like with Ferdinand or Ohuroghu (sp?) it seems a tad unfair to ban people for missing tests with legitimate reasons, if they are willing to give samples immediately. Granted thats not quite the case here but given the pressure he's under, it's not a that surprising that he reacted badly and a 6 month ban seems a touch over zealous

But realising your mistake and heading straight back to the stadium for testing only for the testers to have gone doesn't really warrant a 12 month ban
