Players just won't got for 50/50 tackles. It's not a great challenge, but at a time when people bang on and on about how soft modern players are, we seem to be eliminating robust tackles.

If u r gonna go in hard u are gonna mistime a few. If u think ur gonna get sent off u just won't make the challenge.

If u go 2 feet studs up then u shuld be sent off. But do u want to get rid of tough tackling all together? How many times would Parky get sent off a season if he was still playing?

The best bit is the media try and make out it's a modern thing? Seriously!!

No intent to harm, though - so much less to criticise than a player who deliberately (but subtly) goes over the top of the ball.

The fact that Gomez went flying made it look even worse - don't think it was actually as reckless as some are because, as Dirk says, there wasn't really any intent there.

Just watching the City game here and De Jong has (possibly) broken Ben Arfa's leg. Not a terrible tackle like Henry's but still a textbook reducer on the flair player.

If you recklessly lunge in two-footed like that then the potential for serious injury is very high, which is why there's no place in the game for "tackles" like that.

Perhaps I'm speaking out of turn but I didn't think Henry's tackle or the one by De Jong were as bad as people made out to be prior to my viewing. Bit of an anti-climax really.

After seeing De Jong's challenge, I'm amazed he didn't even see yellow, let alone red. No wonder he's been dropped from the full Dutch squad.

Somewhere in the rules terminology it says if the player isn't in control of himself/ endangering the opponent, Henry's falls into both categories. He's not in control of that challenge. The greasiness on the top of the surface naturally makes the slide that much quicker but even so there is no way he can stop himself nor pull out of the challenge. Once he gets nowhere near the ball (i think there is a case to say even if he got some of it he could still have gone) he's just got to go. I agree with those saying there's no malice in it ut he certainly did endanger the opponent with it, he's literally gone in thinking i can win that and stamp some authority on this game but he's mistimed it and it looks awful.

Whilst he's probably a long way down the list. for me there is a definite case if they want to play the 'defensive midfielder' in a 4-5-1 for someone of his type, or someone like Lee Cattermole. Fine line between being a hard player and being a dirty player. I'd say Cattermole edges towards the latter but with Kevin Davies getting his first call up to the squad it's not completely ridiculous to say someone like Henry or Cattermole won't ever get a call up. After Gareth Barry's atrocious world cup he was extremely lucky to keep his place in there.

I think Gareth Barry is in the side because of his left foot and the fact that it makes the team more balanced

Henry had no chance of winng the ball. If your going to be cynical, which i think he was trying to be, at least go in before the man and let him trip over you.

Bad tackle, which needs to eliminated. What makes it more ironic that I saw an interview with him the day before saying Wolves aren't a dirty team
