People in the game though seem to rate Ireland on his day........suppose he just needs the right team/players to bring the best out of him

Cant really make this one out.

Man for man i think they have a better team then Liverpool right now.

There are quite a few established prem teams struggling this year, probably down to years of spending money they cant really afford on average players. You cant carry on like that for ever.

I think over the next few years some big clubs, like Villa, will go down

The margins between success and failure are so small, and the difference between most of the teams so slight, that a good collection of players can easily come unstuck.

Villa have had to play a lot of the kids too, and a lot is down to application not ability when it comes to winning the close games.

I think that is quite salient.

Wolves in the first few games of the season were quite unlucky- played well but a bad decision/moment of madness cost them 3 pts where they coulda/shoulda got something. McCarthy is a man for that sort of team...he expects to struggle- does not think they deserve/have a right to be in the Prem and that hard work graft and attitude are going to (hopefully) give them just enough to survive.

Villa/Everton/Liverpool.....well they are just too good to go down arn't they? Actually, no. Guts/nous and a managers ability to motivate prima donnas might be what makes the difference this season.

We know from a documentary SJM made in 07 and adding up subsequent revalations he lost about a third of his personal wealth. ALL companies (and ones making continual losses) have had their ability to borrow/finance/afford big spends, mean that the league is more competitive than in many years. For the first time in recent history the league is going to be won on the field of play and not the boardroom....

Notion may be right, but attributed to the wrong end of of the table - the league will be decided in the boardrooms - those that survive at the bottom, however....

Seeing Ashley Young & Agbonlahor give it the big 1 to Chelsea fans after scoring last week reminded me how much I despise them. Young for his antics in the FA Cup game last year and Agbonlahor for being a wasted talent who's been shit for England

Seem to remember reading an article about him where the Villa youth coach had kept him on when others doubted him because he was so quick and thought they could bring his actual football qualities up to standard if he worked really hard with him on them. Although that does sum up exactly why we don't bring through enough quality players in this country.

That's exactly it. The guy who runs Villa's academy went to my old college and his son was a year or so older than me. He'd often pop down and chat about Villa to the barman. They took a sprinter and tried to turn him into a striker.
